Default Ball of Nerve pain side of toe

I had foot surgery (base of first metarsal) Dec 2013 and have experienced nerve related pain since the surgery that no one has been able to diagnosis, EMG tests showed no damage.

My newest symptom is a small internal ball of what feels like nerve pain on side of big toe. In wearing sandals feels like I am stepping on needles sporatically. In touching the toe I can feel a small ball "structure" that is the pain source.

Any thoughts on what this might be?

Ever since surgery big toe has not felt the same, I have been complaining since 2 weeks after surgery. When lightly touch toe feels like "internal hairs stand on end" not pain just sensation this has gotten worse over time. The "ball structure" was not there prior to this past week.

I have Dr Appt on Monday but was curious on what others thought.

Going to get my hardware out next month but that is higher in my foot so not sure if that will solve the toe problem.
