Default flexeril helpful?

Hello,

After not having much relief from gabapentin for all the weird sensation in my body, I went to doc and said we need to add a couple meds (willing to take anything and everything at this point. It's kind of funny really because for over a year I fought tooth and nail to not take a single med). I told my doc about the cramping muscles and he said try flexeril. I took one 10mg Friday, sat, and sunday night. I feel like it has really helped ( 900mg of gabapentin and 10 mg of flexeril). My twitches have decreased (first time in over a year that the number of twitches has decreased). I feel less restless, other sensations have been dampened (still there but more faint). My vibrating has also lessoned. I didn't think a muscle relaxant would be of much help, but I think it is.

Dr will add propranolol in a few weeks. This is to address the pulsating/throbbing throughout my body.

Has anybody with sfn had relief with flexeril?

I can't speak to flexeril, but 900 mg of gabapentin seems like too small of amount given your symptoms. I have whole body intense symptoms of buzzing and burning etc. When I was taking 900 - 1800 mg of gabapentin, I was barely hanging on. For me, i saw improvement when I took 2400 mg of gabapentin, which was the Neurologists recommendation. I still get buzzing and burning on a daily basis, but at least I can function in my life and at my job.

I am still going up on Gabapentin. My dr wants me to go slow and I agree with him. My next increase will be tomorrow and I will be increasing my evening dose to 500mg. hopefully, I will get better relief as I go up. I am also supposed to increase my flexeril next week to 10mg in the afternoon and the 10mg at night.

That is good that the flexeril is helping you. It is "supposed" to help the spasticity of this condition. I tried zanaflex and flexeril and they did nothing for my spasms and literally put me on the floor because they lowered my blood pressure which is already too low (autonomic dysfunction as well) . The only thing that breaks or at least lessons my spasms is low dose of valium. I absolutely hate to resort to it, but have found that when it gets out of control, I am always so glad I did as it spares me from the cascade of muscle pain. I was terrified of narcotics at first, but I am so thankful to know they are there for the days that this gets out of hand. I am very tough though and can take a lot of pain, so I usually do not use meds more than 2 times a week and don't have to follow with another dose as one time usually resets my threshold.

Sounds like you are slowly, but surely, finding the path to relief. So very happy to hear of these little successes.

Good to hear good news about your situation. It sounds like you are documenting as I read your post. I hope so. When meds are added or subtracted don't forget to stick to engrained diet and foods during times of change. IMHO keep the variables to a minimum and take an objective baseline before you start the propranolol. Sorry this sounds so clinical, I am just wishing you continued improvement. Ken in Texas.
