That is at least some attempt at an explanation. My first neurologist suspected CMT, sent me to Johns Hopkins for a second opinion where he confirmed it but also found nerve entrapments everywhere he looked, tested for HNPP which was negative. It was never explained, just something I accept as part of the package.
My podiatrist did say that a long standing diagnosis of bilateral carpal tunnel should have been investigated as it often means something else is going on, especially at my height and with my gait issues. He actually refused to see me again until I had been examined by a neurologist and so started all this about seven years ago.
I could make a very long list of serious health issues in myself and particularly my children that have been missed by doctors. I am not sure at this point why we ever bothered with "well-child" visits
