Default Prescription Pain Relief

I have two questions that are not related.
1. I am now waking up screaming in desperation because my legs are cramping up. It hurts so bad, I can't take it

2.. My GP suggested pain management (drugs).. Is everyone else doing them? I am having an awful two days right now and I feel like a hot mess. There was no way in hell I could habe worked yesterday. Today is my day off so it's ok but I have never had to miss work before. I wanted to chop my right arm off. I have an appointment today for pain management and I am wondering if I should do it. Please help, I can't take this and I can't just not work. Thank you

Sorry you're having this problem...it's really horrible. I went through an odd period of suddenly having terrible nocturnal leg and foot cramps back in June. Like you, they would pop me out of bed in agony. I was getting cramps in muscles I'd never had cramps before in my life.

This was a brand new symptom for me, so I did a lot of reading to try to figure what might have caused the sudden onset. The only thing I could come up with was that it was a calcium issue, although there seems to be a lot of controversy as to how much of a role calcium could play in it.

The thing that had changed when I started getting them was that I had made dietary changes and wasn't eating/drinking anywhere near as much dairy as had always been a standard part of my diet. I also wasn't supplementing enough to compensate for it. I reintroduced the food-based calcium and paid more attention to daily intake so I could supplement as necessary, and things calmed down almost immediately.

For whatever reason with this SFN, my body seems to be much more sensitive to things like imbalances and deficiencies. Even though in the past I might have gotten away with not getting enough of something in my diet, I can't get away with it now.

I don't know if this will help you or not, but calcium did help me. Note you have to make sure you're getting enough magnesium to help with the calcium absorption too. This is one expert's opinion:

http://newhope360.com/news/expert-ci...sium-imbalance

"The fact that most people do not get their minimum daily requirement of magnesium exacerbates the situation. The high calcium - low magnesium diet of most Americans when coupled with calcium supplementation can give a Ca to Mg imbalance of 4: or 5:1, which constitutes a walking time bomb of impaired bone health and heart disease."

Dr. Dean recommends monitoring calcium intake, supplementing with vitamin D, getting the minimum daily requirement of magnesium, "and going for a 1:2 or at the very least a 1:1 calcium-magnesium balance."

We had a family emergency and I haven't been home since Friday. The stress level is higher than the normal 1000%- I don't feel like explaining today. Do you think that three days of missed vitamin supplements can do this? Damn. I did eat a crap load of red meat last night too

I am so sorry I have had that same issue. What I do is get up and walk it out (no fun especially at 2 am) I also rub my legs with bengay or anything menthol.

Drugs are fine especially when unbearable I will take an acetamanphine with oxy codone maybe 2x a month. They are addictive and can cause other problems.

Good luck on your appointment.

The appointment was no good. I was told to see my neurologist. Getting tossed around is part of the deal I guess. That is EXACTLY what I want as far as the pain meds, just to habe for those few completely unbearable days. I really appreciate you writing to me. I put menthol lotions on my feet at night and it's feels great before bed. I have the leg cramps a lot but mostly just hear about it because I dont even remember waking me-- gabapentin totally knocks me out. I feel so bad for my boyfriend sometimes. He never does anything but support me, we are best friends and very active aND caring people. But it still has to suck for him. Last night I woke up screaming so bad, it sounded like someone was standing over me with a chainsaw. I have to suspect that anyone that suffers from this has to be tough to get by and get going. I just have those days that the pain gets me and gets me good. I do win most of the time

My primary gave me the prescription for. Oxy Codone He probably would not renew it. Pain Mgmt. gave me a diary to track my blood sugars. Maybe Epsom Salt or Magnesiun Oil might help or a lidocaine patch or2.

When it is that bad you should have something strong. Good Luck!

Thank you. I have lidocaine cream at the farm for my boyfriend's father. Tons of it. Can't believe that I didn't think of that for the hands and feet everyday. What is wrong with .me? Ugh. The pain management doctor was ******. He said that he only handles people that can at least get injections (I saw him years ago prior to back surgery). I was diagnosed by my neurologist. My GP sent me to pain management. Never again for him though. Very ignorant. Didn't know about magnesium oil. You guys are so nice
