Have any of you used rubbing alcohol to cool your feet and legs? Do you know if besides drying your skin it has any other harmful side effects? I remember my mom using it on me when I had a fever and felt hot. I just tried it on my legs and it felt pretty good.

The reason I am asking is I find myself having to worry about stuff besides the usual things on my hurricane preparation list. Yes, I have a stockpile of my meds, etc, but if the power goes out that means the AC goes off and it will be incredibly hot inside my house. Heat triggers my SFN symptoms big time so I am trying to think outside the box.

Hopefully the storm will not come ashore, but even if this is a miss it is information I definitely need to store away. If you have any other suggestions please share.

Have you tried Salonpas Deep Pain gel or Biofreeze? They both contain menthol which also provides a cooling sensation. I think straight rubbing alcohol is too drying and irritates the skin.

I use alcohol for the itching with a cotton ball have been doing this for A couple years. I use for the other symptoms once in a while but when itching so so bad I will pour it on my legs and wash with cold water then pat dry and use a cortisone.

For the neuropathy symptoms I have been using BenGay and Vicks together that has been working quite well plus I massage my feet.

Alcohol has never dried my skin cuz I but the moisture back generally I will pat Sarna that my dermatologist recommended that has a cooling effect.

Capcasian I used that too. But it burns me I am looking for soothing.

I don't find the alcohol to be long lasting for anything but the itching.

Rubbing alcohol has the nasty gas smell to it. You can try ice or cooling packs.

Tigerbalm. A little goes a long way and it's cooling.

There are freezer gel packs with velcro. you can buy a whole bunch and the freezer actually keeps things cold for 2 days if you open and close it very quicky. The cold gel packs are very helpful for overheating. You can wrap them around your head, neck, wrists, ankles.

Essential oils spritzed around like wintergreen make the air feel fresh and nice.

Stay hydrated.

Strange but sometimes a hot tea on a hot day heats me up much for about 10 minutes but then there is a cooling down effect where the outside hot air doesn't fee so hot... Just throwing it out there.

This hurricane is no longer a threat. It split in half off the coast of cuba. Thank you for all your suggestions. I will store them away for another day.

they call it a tropical storm, which is much weaker than a hurricane, less destructive. Good to know its not going to any significant damage, like previous storms.
