Hi everyone,
I was diagnosed with SFN by skin biopsy in January by a professor in London. My results showed increased nerve fibers. I have had all the tests, even a lip biopsy for sjogens syndrome but everything has come back normal. Because of the increased fibers it was suggested in my biopsy letter that it could be neuroinflammation, so consultant has put me on 5 days prednisone infusion. I am just wondering how long it would take to feel any results, if this was to work. Thanks |

You'll know by the end of the 5 days...probably within the first 2-3 days. How much will be infused? I have had up to 1 gram (1000 mg) a day for 5 days.

The steroids itself don't 'stay' in the body all that long (gone within a week), but the benefits can last all month or even longer in some cases. It all depends on the cause of the inflammation and how fast the inflammation comes back.

I agree you should notice strength within a few days. It will stay in you for a few days after you stop taking it as well. I think 5 days. If you feel worse or side effects get too bad just call your doctor before deciding to tough it out. |

Here is an article that explains myopathy induced by corticosteroids:
http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/313842-overview You can join Medscape for free, if you don't belong. This process is not really inflammatory ..it involves certain growth factors, mitochondria and RNA. Medscape has a strict copyright, so I cannot quote from there.
