Thank you... and Happy Thanksgiving too to everyone.

Last week I was not a happy camper....much pain and especially my arthritis woes.

So by coincidence, hubby went to Costco, and did some shopping for me. We did that phone thing...LOL
So in the produce he found dried cherries...with none of that terrible sulfur dioxide in them or preservatives etc.
These are Dried Montmorency tart Cherries. So they were so yummy I've been have some each day as snacks...just a few at a time here and there. Well, all my pain is gone.

So I looked this up. I never had success with cherry juice or cherry extract. But these really pack a punch!

I searched today and found them also at SAM's club, BTW.

That is great to hear how the cherries seemed to help you mrsD. I don't like to say it but I am thankful for gabapentin & tramadol. I'm also very thankful that several years ago I learned that a change in diet & other lifestyle factors can heal a great many conditions, first from Dr. Dean Ornish.

These are the cherries... this is an Amazon listing...as Costco does not have them online. (for non-members)

Happy Thanksgiving, a day late, MrsD. Thanks for your support and care.

My copper supplement arrived this morning, so now we'll see if that makes any difference.

It 'could' but as a general rule all I've read about copper deficiency and PN is that it 'stops' the progression to take the supplement…but doesn't reverse the damage. My PN isn't progressing, and hasn't since it was found 3.5 years ago.

My guess is I do have this copper deficiency, but it isn't the cause of my PN.

Several 'alternative medicine' experts believe Proton Pump Inhibitors interfere with copper absorption, and I've taken Omeprazole daily for 10 years. So that could be the cause for sure. The problem is that I cannot find any more mainstream research or results connecting PPI's to copper deficiency.

I'll start the copper and get retested in three months, so we can see if the copper supplement corrects my deficiency and go from there.

I'll mention the possibility of a connection between the PPI and copper deficiency to my Neurologist, as well.

Again, thanks for being there. You are a mainstay to many, and such a voice of knowledge, reason and compassion.

Hugs, Elaine

You might want to try the cherries! they are really something wonderful. I don't need any OTC pain relief at all since the weekend. It took about 3 days to start working though.

Copper is useful for maintaining the integrity of the discs in the spine. I saw papers years ago suggesting low copper levels lead to ruptured discs.

I saw on a website a while back where one doctor was generalizing on "trace" minerals being affected by PPIs.
This I guess is because most of the minerals so far are divalent ++ (calcium, magnesium, zinc.)

There is no guarantee your supplement will work in the presence of the PPIs lowering acid. So you will need retesting.
I'd ask for a copper/zinc ratio blood work too. Too much copper will lower zinc ...so that needs to be done too.

I could not find PPI papers with other minerals. That just means the studies have not been done yet.

http://nutritionfacts.org/2015/10/06...-tart-cherries

" Regular red sweet cherries (Bing sweet cherries) were shown to have a greater anti-inflammatory activity than tart cherries. This makes sense since we think it may be the anthocyanin phytonutrients, and there are much more in sweet red cherries than in tart, and nearly none in yellow Rainer cherries."

Hi Electron,

When I saw this thread in the lineup of today's posts, I thought I was losing my mind. Then, I looked and saw that this thread is almost 2 years old.

The last week, I suddenly seem to be having difficulty with knowing the time of day, the day of the week, and having recently entered the month of October, I thought I had missed a month and was actually in November due to the Thanksgiving mention in the title.

I wish you had made your post as a new thread because you gave me quite a scare. I thought I had REALLY lost all sense of time.

I hope no one else shares my fright. Well, it is getting close to Halloween.

Hopeless,
How funny our minds work....I saw the post and thought, poor Debi, she is losing her mind. (Guess that shows what my ego is like...assuming Debi lost her mind and not me!......Love you Debi!!!! )

Thanks for the info Electron. I like to learn about natural cures and I know nothing about cherries.
