Correct about the esophageal spasms...good point. Did you have the manometry test to confirm the esophageal spasms?

I have had an EKG, breathing test, sweat test, autonomic reflex test, colonoscopy, bronchoscopy, endoscopy, EMG, MRI, etc. With the autonomic reflex test, my sweat output was abnormal in my foot and I was diagnosed with idiopathic small fiber neuropathy. The EMG was also abnormal.

You really need to be worked up by a cardiologist for the chest pain before assuming it is SFN related. If all is ok, then some more autonomic testing is in order.

One other thing that is possible is "esophogeal spasms". The sphincter muscle of the esopagus spasms near the entrance to to stomach. This is located right near the heart. These can often be misconstrued at cardiac pains. If you have ever had problems with reflux it can be a cause. I have had reflux for years (only goes away with dietary restrictions), the chest pains I get were attributed to that by my cardiologist after extensive cardiac examination of repeated chest pain occurrences.

The key thing is making a visit to a cardiologist, they will likely do an EKG, ECHO and stress test. Get that ruled out so you have some peace of mind and then investigate the other possibilities.

Have you had an esophageal manometry test to rule out or confirm the spasms coming from the esophagus?

Was never recommended by Cardiologist or Gastroenterologist. Have had a few Upper GI scopes over the years. May consider it at some point it looks like a very uncomfortable test.

There really are MANY possible causes of chest pain. The key thing is ruling out the heart related possibilities.

I had the manometry and can say that it was one of the worst medical experiences I've had. The treatment is the same regardless of cardiac vasospasms and esophageal vasospasms. It was nice to confirm mine as cardiac as we are now able to look for changes related to the spasms (they already noticed heart wall dysfunction via stress test due to the spasms), but under no cirmcumstance will I ever go through the manometry again!! Avoid it if you can!!

Yeah I had an upper GI once and they didn't wait long enough for the numbing stuff to kick in, I was gagging and ended up yanking the scope tube(which was already well into my stomach) out of my mouth. Doctor was a jerk.
