I am puzzling over this and asking for your help.
My persistent cough predates my neuropathy. I have had it over 20 years. Doctors explored all possible reasons and came up with 0. My family and friends try their best to ignore it. I have had to learn how to live with it, sort of, but it has had a negative impact on my life. (I need my own room when I travel, entertainment that requires silence is out, people think I'm sick, etc...) Could it possible have something to do with my neuropathy or visa versa? I was doing some research just now and came across the info below. Maybe it doesn't fit into the scope here but I have to ask. I am feeling very frustrated tonight. ![]() http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4222934/

I am wonder if that plays in to your issues. Does it wake you up too? I get the learning to live with it part, but that is a layer cake of tough with nerve pain involved.
Do you get colds more often since this cough started?

My cough was the 1st things I had to learn to live with and it has been a big adjustment. Next came nerve pain with an icing of Restless Leg Syndrome (twitching.) TG my pain isn't that bad most of the time, but my not being able to sleep at night due to cough and now RLS has made me want to throw that layer cake at people. Today the people around me better beware ![]() Thank you for responding. I like the way you put things. It never fails to make me smile.

A low grade GERD (acid reflux) can cause a chronic cough.
The nerves that run from the lungs share the pathway around the esophagus, and cause shortness of breath, and coughing, if stimulated by acidic reflux. If the reflux is mild, that cough may be the only symptom. Also post nasal drip can set off the cough reflex.

i concur with what MRS. D said. Especially since its worse when you lay down. i have asthma which manifests itself as chronic coughing among other ways for 14 years now. One of the tests i had was an endoscopy to investigate whether the chronic cough was caused by or exacerbated by acid reflux.

Because I often cough after I eat and when I lay down I had an endoscopy some years ago and it was fine. I'm thinking I could have a low grade GERD that maybe does not show up? However, I did try Zantac and Prilosec and my cough did not improve. I have noticed Post Nasal drip which could be a contributor. I'm going to look into that.
