Has anyone here managed to get their gp to order specialised blood tests and then interpret the results? I've spoken to Oxford labs about specialised neuro bloods and they recommended a neuro request them even if you pay. I haven't got appointment with neuro til Feb now. The pain of waiting to get things done is so frustrating beyond words.

I agree....the waiting game with the Nero docs is tough because you need answers/help now...waiting until Feb does not seem long if your healthy but when you have any of the PN diseases it is valuable time lost. Sorry you have to wait, it's the same here in the US, at least in my area of NY.

I think it may depend on whether the lab is in house or a mail-away. My pcp does labs inhouse and they are not good, I can't find out anything, it's all up to the pcp to tell me anything and then its just a "your fine". On the other hand, my Endo mails the blood to a big lab and they mail back papers that have a parameter scale and where your blood is on the scale. You can tell how you are by a glance. b-12,d-3 A1c, I guess whatever the Endo can request. So if I have a doubt I ask the Endo to find out for me. Good Luck, Ken in Texas.

If you know what are the relevant blood tests then maybe you can request those tests now and then ask the neuro on Feb to interpret the results. If any of the results is positive you can do your homework before the neuro appointment and know better what to ask.
Otherwise the neuro might request the test on Feb, then you will have to wait again for a second appointment for the interpretations and recommended treatments.
If the neuro is not familiar with these tests (most of the neuro that I met know nothing about these tests…) he might refuse to order them and then you waited 3 months for nothing.
