I still have no diagnosis. My original neurologist said my nerves were being irritated, not damaged, but he couldn't find a cause. I am exploring the possibility that my SFPN symptoms come from a problem in my lumbar. Meanwhile it's been almost a year and a half of chronic burning and my concern is how much can they take before they are damaged if not already?

I doubt there is any real answer to this question as situations are different as are people but I'd sure love feedback.
My feet are very shiny, so much so that if I walk across the carpet or floor with no shoes on my socks just slide off.

I have shiny skin on the top of my feet. It's very thin, has a greyish pale hue (all my skin does now though since sfn). I think the thin shiny skin is totally normal with Sfn.

Red face

My feet are really bothering me too. Since about a year ago my toes seem to be getting numb and they hurt. The skin on the entire foot is extremely dry so I use a lot of cream on them and keep them warm. When they get cold the pain is really too much. I try to drink water but it's really hard. I do find I am dehydrated most of the time and I'm sure that doesn't help.

Oh and I do find that I slide on the carpet too so I guess they are shiny.

My feet top and bottom; not too shiny; maybe the top a bit more; but they sure do burn when walking, especially barefoot.,

Question

Does anybody here go barefoot most of the time? I'm wondering about that. Do shoes make any difference?

I go barefoot anytime I can. I don't have any carpet in the house and my feet feel best when flat on the floor. I have no idea why.

Since it's getting cool here I have been keeping booties on my feet but no shoes. The only shoes I wear are a sandal with an adjustable strap on top. And they still hurt my feet.

My foot doctor has no problem with me going barefoot. He said whatever feels and works best for me.

I do have very shiny feet on the bottoms of both. My little toes are shiny on top too and stay bright red all the time. And the skin on both feet feels very tight all the time but they are not dry.

I've also noticed recently that when I'm on my feet too much the bottoms of my feet get extremely hot.....hot to the touch. Weird ? And then sometimes they are freezing cold to the touch.

But I am in the process of figuring out of mine is diabetes related or not - my fasting and A1C are all at the very high end of "normal" and I've been testing my own sugars lately and there have been a few in the prediabetic and even diabetic range.

I am glad you posted this question, though, because I did some research and found a lot about shiny feet and hands being a sign of diabetes. The more evidence I have to bring to my first neuro appointment that my PN could be caused by high blood sugar, the better.
The question about Shiny feet. I have very shiny feet, so much so that should I walk across the carpet shoeless my socks work off. I have very painful PN, not much they can do about it though!
