Gina,
Your Grandfather does sound like a wild man.....and at 94!! Dang you must have some longevity genes in your family! I can see him in his fancy car, with all the jewlery, speeding down the freeway to the ocean! LOL That's quite a site! It sounds like you love him a lot.
I hope your mom finds a special friend so she doesn't have to spend the rest of her life alone......because that's not fun.
How are you feeling Gina? Are the pain meds helping at all??

Roxie2007 07-29-2007 09:47 AM

Opps.....Typo.......I meant 84 not 94 LOL

Dakota:

Don't know if you know this, but you can bring a cell phone that can surf the net. They have them all over the place.

Now if you want to be incommunicado, then that's a completely different thing. Go and have fun and don't think about computers, the internet, anything. Just have family fun.

But if you need to be on the net for any reason, get one of those sidekick thingees that all the people on my block have. They can surf the net, text message each other (they do this when they are standing right in front of each other), I think they are nuts. I once said "you are text messaging each other right?", and you are standing a foot apart, right?" so why don't YOU JUST SPEAK TO EACH OTHER???"

They looked at me like I'm nuts!!!!! oy veh, the younger generation.

Hi all.

Remember, a few posts back, I described how my 63 year old lady friend is now learning how to use her computer, and she put in Splendor.com instead of Splenda.com.

Well, just now she calls me up and she says "I'm at the Shoprite website, and I'm looking at circulars, see if you see anything you like, we're going there on Wednesday". So I just said to her "what is the URL?" She said "what is the what??"" I said "look at the top of your screen, at your browser web address place, it will say "www, blah blah, and she goes "I don't see it". I then go nuts and I say "there has to be a web address at the top of your screen, because you are at a website". What does she say?" I'm not at a website, I'm at shopright circulars". I just said "oh my god".

Finally, I find it (on my own), and we are on the same page. I tell her, "Esther, at the top of my screen, it says "shopright.com, blah blah", and she says "oh, yeah, I know". I said "what do you mean, you know, I just asked you to give me the url for this website???" and she goes "Oh, I don't pay attention to that stuff, I just look at the website'.

I want to strangle her. Only I can't because she takes me to Shoprite supermarket on Wednesday.

HI Mel!
What you described about your friend and the website problem sounds like Mike's grandfather. He has trouble with his computer because it only has Window's ME on it.....it's an old computer. So it has trouble with some of the high tech stuff on the bank websites. So he gets on the phone and talks to the IT people at the bank......I feel SO sorry for them! LOL First off.....he has trouble hearing. So he keeps asking them to repeat what they are saying. Then he doesn't understand what they are telling him to do......lol He'll keep those poor people on the phone for an hr going over and over and over the steps to get his computer problem fixed. Then the next time he logs in to their site......there's the problem again! LOL Some times he calls them once a week! He won't hear of getting a newer computer because "there's nothing wrong with the one he has now!" LOL I'm sure those IT people cring when they realize it's him on the phone with another problem! LOL

Roxie:

I forgot to mention that when I was on the phone with my friend who was on her computer (by the way, it's only one year old, has Windows XP, and she wouldn't know what Windows XP was if you hit her in the head with it (lol). Anyway, I once told her to forward an email to me. Forget it. She couldn't do it. Then she said "It won't let me reply to anybody". I said "Who won't let you reply to anybody?" and she goes: "The computer"

I said "the computer won't let you reply to an e-mail???" and she goes, "that's right, I can only read e-mails, I can't reply to people".

I give up!!!!!

LOL LOL LOL That's a hoot! I know it's difficult to learn how to use a computer. I guess we're just lucky it came fairly easy to us.
My friends dad only has a 7th grade education and he can't figure out how a computer works at all. He still thinks it's like a 2 way radio! LOL He said "Hey we can't tune in Texas on our computer!" My friend tried to explain that everyone is on the internet and you can look things up on it......he still can't grasp it. Poor guy!

Silverlady 07-31-2007 07:20 PM

Roxie...did you pass that

fever over this way? I know the mosquito population is horrible but we've had no West Nile reported yet. I've run a temp that I''m positive of for the last couple of days. It's been as high as 101.9 today and I was shivering before that. But I didn't think so much of it until my best friend asked me why I was shaking so hard. I was shivering so hard that it took both hands to hold a glass of milk. She made me take my temp. My normal temp runs 97.6 And my stomach is always messed up because of the neuropathy so I don't think too much about problems with it. Whatever I've got has been here a couple of days at least. I started out just sweating terribly but one of the meds sometimes makes me sweat if the doses are too close together. And I've just been so terribly tired. But then I've been pushing myself harder than usual.

The pain doctor gave me a prescription for some small Fentanyl patches. Only 12mg. I am taking so much medicine for the autoimmune problems and I didn't want to take it, but he told me that my pain threshold expression was just too high. Hard to concentrate, twitchy, looking at my husband hoping he'll finish sentences, etc. Seems he noticed all of that and suggested I try some of the small ones. I've used them for a few days. But I just think they don't do much good until I took them off. It took me a few days to get over the detox from them. And then I tried to turn over in the bed. My rear is still broken obviously. I couldn't turn from my back to my side. I was still able to get up tho with help from my husband. This is disappointing because I thought I was making some headway there.

But how in the world do you know when you are seriously ill? A fever for I'm not really sure how long, shivers seemed normal, stomach hurts but then it usually does, etc. How do you know when you are sick? I am to see the doctor on Thurs for my reg. checkup, and if my temp comes back this evening. I'll call first thing in the morning and ask for an appt. tomorrow if they can manage it. Dahlek said I was too quiet. Don't you all wish she'd kept her mouth shut now??!;)

Billye

Roxie2007 07-31-2007 08:12 PM

HI Billye!
OH gosh I hope you don't have something serious with that temp! Temps make ya feel so dang miserable! I had such a headache and sick stomach with mine. I hope it's just a bug that will run it's course and get over it. My dr. was convinced it was from the Fentanyl patch but I don't know....maybe so.....maybe not. I was just glad when it was over with! Now if I can just get rid of the Ecoli......I'll be much happier! I seem my Gastro dr. on Monday.....I'm sure he'll want to do some nasty test on me. :(
Hope you feel well soon Billye!

Sue,
I'm dreading all the paperwork we have to fill out for the ssi. Mike printed off a bunch of the forms today so we can start figuring out what we need to know and info to locate. fun fun!!
I have trouble writing any more too. I hate that cause I used to be a big time letter writer. I can still type......but my printer is on the fritz....always something!
Anyway, Nice to hear from you!

Silverlady 08-01-2007 03:55 PM

Saw the doctor today.

He thinks its my colon. He did the digit test for blood (don'tcha hate those things!). But I'm still running the temp of over 100 today, so that's 3 days. He has decided to put me on a three day course of antibiotics and have me drink lots of liquid and see what happens. My blood work for this last month came back showing me really anemic. That was taken two weeks ago. So he's repeating that with an anemia panel of work. Did that today. One thing that came back on the last bloodwork that marked as being too high was the comp.glucose. It was 115. I'll watch this on the list. This was fasting bloodwork.

Looks pre-diabetic to me.

Later, I'm going to lay down with my little dog.

Roxie2007 08-01-2007 08:02 PM

HI Billye, Man you sound like you're feeling awful! I hope the antibiotics help you quickly. Have you had colon problems before?
I had IVIG #4 today and now I am just totally wiped out and I'm feeling that buzzing feeling again. My sister and her boyfriend are suppose to be driving through Houston tonight and I don't even feel up to seeing them at the truck stop :( (they drive semi across the US)
I hope you get to feeling better quickly!!

Roxie2007 08-01-2007 08:03 PM

Hey Sue, How are you tonight? I'm heading to bed in a few min.....but wanted to say Hi.........Take care girl!

LizaJane 08-01-2007 10:59 PM

Billye, I'm sick with worry for you. I don't know why he said it was colon---did you have diarrhea? I hope he's right. I just don't like it. I'd think, if you don't have symptoms other than fever, that a kidney infection would be more likely. Don't know about this colon thing without diarrhea.

I do hope the antibiotics work for you, and quickly.

With love,

shiney sue 08-02-2007 12:57 AM

Oh Roxie i'm worrie about son in mn

Didn't hear about bridge until late at night and still can't get ahold of any
one,i am sick about it. I will be in hospital tommomorow don't know if i'll spend the night Sue.

Silverlady 08-02-2007 08:22 AM

For Liza Jane

I sent you an email, Yes there was some diarrea. Which is really unusual for me. I think he's probably right. He says there is something called ulcerative colitis and it goes along with lupus,RA and Sjogren's. So it's likely he's right. We'll see tho. He's treating me for infection first and said if I got to where I couldn't keep liquid down, to call him and he'd hospitalize me and call in the big guns. Don't worry. I'm on top of it.

Get one autoimmune condition--

--you're likely to get more, or at least the effect of more--is this possibly related to a Crohn's-like symptomology?

Hope you start feeling better, in any case.

Silverlady 08-02-2007 05:28 PM

Unfortunately, that's so

I'm actually not as bad as yesterday. Temps still over 100 but I think the thing whatever it is is burning out. Glenn, the doctor called it ulcerative colitis. He's not sure I have it, he's just speculating. And it does go along with what I have, Sjogren's and RA. He gave me Cipro to take twice a day, told me to drink lots of liquid, bland diet, etc. I just talked to Jane and I'm really not as bad as yesterday. I've only had the first round of anti-biotics so far. I hope to feel better and better.

Thank you all for your good wishes.

Billye

sorry, Roxie, I didn't mean to highjack your thread.:(
