I just called her and said "you know what has caused your neuropathy, the statins"...so it's not unknown as your doctors have told you. She says that about 4-5 yrs ago her daughter printed out info on statins and neuropathy and she took it to her doctor and he denied the statins are the cause!!!! Soooo many people just don't question their doctors or the drugs, etc. Well, off my soapbox..had to vent a bit.

You keep talking on your soapbox. Someday SOMEONE might just listen. It always helps to share knowledge and experience.

Take care,

A message from the soapbox. I've talked about using Vicks and many other topicals. I kinda stopped Vicks for a while although I have a new jar ready to go. I used it last night on my feet and knee and I added some drops of tea tree oil and oil of oregano too since I posted last about Vicks use. I swear I sleep even better with the Vicks rubbed in my feet.
I slept so good last night. I'll continue with the Vicks on my feet and check the pattern.

Good old tried and trusted Vicks. I buy larger jars from amazon.

Hi, I'm sorry about your husband. My mother suffers from SFN she has also been undergoing the same horrible pain. IVIG, has helped my mother tremendously for a few months, she even would forget to take her pain meds. Although, unfortunately after several months, the therapeutic effects began to stop. Fortunately for you, her doctor claims that this is not normal and typically doesn't just stop working. Also, I have been doing my own research and found a researcher at Penn State. Dr. Zagon, who's research focused on the therapeutic properties of LDN (low dose nalextrone) for autoimmune. The medicine was originally used for opiate/alcohol dependence disorders. I spoke to him directly about this drug and I quote he said "it should be a winner". Although, the only downside is very very few pharmacies carry this drug. Only, because it needs to be compounded on site which requires a differentiated pharmacy. If you happen to be from NJ or NY. I have an extensive list of physicians who are familiar with this drug and are willing to prescribe it. Hope this helps.

I gave LDN a 6 month trial, could NOT get it to work for me. Never got beyond .5mg and did have a day or so of HORRID constipation. I was taking and trying so much to NOT do a hip replacement...even this LDN. There are yahoo LDN groups and many with MS claim it helps but I gave it a real run and gave up.

BTW: I am using the Vicks nightly and will see how it goes...last night I had two little bouts of toe pains and got up and rubbed more Vicks and got back to a good sleep. I will do the Vicks during the day too and see how it goes.

If your problem isn't immune or autoimmune, LDN will likely not work for you.

I continue to use Vicks on feet and knee and talking to another health friend, she was talking about turpentine oil for joint pain help. Turns out turpentine oil is an ingredient in Vicks. Vicks has been around for decades+. A similar product to Vicks is Unkers which I am reading about on amazon. It has a pine needle oil which is similar to the turpentine oil origin. I change off a lot but Vicks draws me back to it. Time for a new Vicks application now. C

I go thru episodes of burning and even tingling on my feet, right foot worst which is side of body with hip replacement and that surgery damage. I still use Vicks nightly and add drops of jojoba oil or black seed current oil and other theraputic oil and know it helps me sleep and it's almost like a healing for my feet. I believe my issues are arthritis related but it seems like neuropathy can come from so many areas. Vicks has analgesic properties.

Time to revisit this thread again. C

How timely is this, I go back and forth with "rubs" for feet and neuropathy and have kinda been off the Vicks for feet and Neuro as I keep trying so many other things, but back to using it tonight for these areas and just bought another 2 jar 6 oz pkg from guess who, yes, them. Price is right.

My pain specialist recommended applying Mineral Ice to my feet and hands and also along the base of my spine where nerve receptors are. The purpose was to send cooling messages to the brain. There's research to support this. For me, the relief was minor and temporary and the application was kind of messy and sticky. I did't think it was worthwhile. I had stinging, stabbing pain in addition to the burning. It might be helpful if the primary symptom is just burning.
