Default Neuropathy cause & Progression

Hey Guys im a 27 year old male.mid last year i went overseas and suffered an acute kidney failure, which i recovered ,but left me with tingling feet at the bottom of my feet.Went to teh doctors and they had no clue about it especially since my bloodwork was pretty much perfect.roughly 3 month later with dealing with alot of issues and stress, one day out of no where it head spread to both my hands.4 months later it has spread to up to my arms and legs.
Assuming that my cause was from uremic neuropathy which pretty much means that the toxins pretty much damaged my nerves while in failure. But why is it progressing?i thought if the cause of damage has been stopped it shouldn't progress .IS it because the damage to those areas have already been done?but no symptoms were present till later?

Thanks!

Welcome liquidz1,

Sorry to hear about your condition. The link that kiwi33 provided seems to provide some good general information about uremic neuropathy. Seems like they recommend Biotin as a supplement to help this type of issue.

Of course, you do need to make sure that you continue to be checked for any recurrence of the kidney issue. You also have to consider the possibility that you have more than one thing going on.

Unfortunately, these types of neuropathy can be very difficult to diagnose, and even more difficult to treat. But no matter the cause, I think the following things are very important to the health of your nerves - and will give you the best chance of symptom management and hopefully some healing:

-Diet (high nutrients/low sugar)
-Exercise (as much as your condition will allow)
-Stress reduction (the anxiety we experience because of our condition only serves to make the condition worse. Meditation, relaxation therapy, just listening to recordings of the ocean, rivers, rainfall, birds, etc. can help)
-Supplements (The article kiwi33 linked mentions Biotin. You can find much information about other recommended supplements by searchng through the past posts, etc.)

Best of luck - I hope you can find some relief from your condition.

Westmead has an excellent reputation.

I hope that your appointment with the neurologist there goes well - s/he should be able to arrange for a nerve biopsy if that seems like a good idea.

Default I am from sydney

I do not know about Westmead, hope it goes well for you. I was treated at RPA which specialises in neuropathy and has the only autonomic studies centre in Sydney if you ever need to go that route. Their neuros are neuropathy/small fibre specialists. However I never got the test where they do the skin biopsy. They did not offer that at that time, and no other place in Australia did either. I was amazed to see that a few very difficult cases at Mayo consulted with the neuros at RPA. It was published in medical journals.
