Dust off and continue is my best (unsollicited ) advice. While a relapse isn't good - as you can clearly feel - it's not the end of the world if you can pick up where you left off. You did not do any more damage - even though it may feel like you did.

I have felt the exact same thing before I got serious about sobriety: stopped drinking for 3 months, had a one day dip and boom: pain was back with a vengeance. At this point it doesn't really matter if you get an official "stamp of PN approval", you can be sure it's what you have.

And at some point you just go "this little bit of fun I had is not worth the horrible pain, the feeling I threw all progress away". That's the stage where staying sober becomes second nature.

Day 4

Thank you so much for that post Wide-O. I cannot tell you how much better I feel for having read it.

1. To be totally understood and have my pain and feelings acknowledged by another human being.

2. To draw strength from the fact that you have been where I am now and have found a way to live.

Thank you, my friend.

Wanted to share a post with the group as I know if I was following it would give me hope. My previous posts were about me feeling like I was declining a bit. I had some extra sensitivity. I completed my running streak and after about 2 weeks of resting from being off my feet, I not only felt better, but I have had the least amount of discomfort in roughly 4 years. That was when i tried to stop drinking the first time but eventually went back out and did damage for 2 more years. I'm no way near 100%, but it does give me hope that I will improve even more in the next few years. I am still on the path of leading a healthy life style, eating mostly plant based now, and getting exercise in on the daily basis to get my blood moving. And no plans of drinking ever again, although I know we only have today. Have a peaceful weekend everyone.

Thanks for that post On a freeway and thanks to all who have created and keep this page going for so long. It is so helpful. I know it’s a long road to recovery but I am curious with your personal experiences, did the progression of the disease stop once you stopped drinking? And if so, about how long did it take for that to happen? Thanks for any feedback.

Hi Jane,

Hope you are well. Have often thought about your progression from diet thread.
I asked the same question further back in this thread and was told in takes about a year. For me it was quicker but I had to start again because I mistakenly thought an odd drink wouldn't hurt me. My symptoms started in January 2020 with numb toes and thats pretty much all that remains for me.
How are your symptoms? Are you making progress? Have you plateaued? Any top tips from your Facebook group? I'll text in diet thread soon.

Atty
