I have a fair amount of skin sensitivity and clothes rubbing on my left side are a terrible bother. This has gotten so irriating that I can barely tolerate stockings or knee highs. I have given up on dresses and have taken to wearing slacks with trouser socks for work. I have notified over the past 2 weeks that even my socks bother me now. I have purchased several socks that are 100% cotton but the elastic at the top drives me crazy to the point I can't concentrate.

I know that many of you have had this same issue so can you direct me to a sock that might be tolerable? Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Well, I have no recommendations for you, just wanted to say I understand exactly what you mean. I have called myself, the princess and the pea. I honestly think I am getting better though...I can actually wear long sleeves now, last year, I couldn't stand them touching me. Knee hi's drive me nuts still, and if I can wear them all day, I feel them for hours after they are gone (I haven't worn them for some time now). I much prefer shorts over long pants...some socks drive me nuts on some days, but not always. I can't wear necklaces, I can't stand them touching me.

Yeah, I understand, but I have no answers for you...sorry.

has diabetic socks with less contrictive elastic. They run about 3.79 a pair, and come in black and white.

They are not thin like dress socks.

There are also relaxed elastic men's tube socks. My son uses these. (also at WalMart)

But nice women's trouser socks I have not been able to find, that were not tight.

I buy chenille socks, they are soft and not tight at all. I buy mine at j.c.pennys they are like a regular sock but very soft, it's all I can wear and they fit into mysuede top crocs without being tight. I can't stand to have clothes touch me or my skin to touch my skin, like my thighs, and I have to wear a bra 24/7 because I can't stand my breasts to touch my upper stomach, weird huh?

You are not the only one! I think this is called allodynia (sp?). Anyhow half my clothes I cannot wear any longer. Feels like I am wearing wool (which I never could wear). I like silk, polyester, microfiber, spandex mixes and really soft cotton when it is new (somehow cotton seems to "harden and pile" as it gets laundered a lot. I like the diabetic "peds socks" at Wal Mart also. Good thing I dont have to wear panti hose, etc. I find I can wear some cotton turtle necks if I wear cuddle duds (mock turtle neck) under them. I live where is gets fairly cold so I like the extra layer too. The microfiber pajamas sure feel nice and I may try a pair. Flannel is okay if it is new and soft but seems to "harden" to. Does anybody else also have areas that become "cold" to the touch (even someone elses touch)) and yet it feels burning hot to you.
I have that problem in my thighs and upper arms. All of my peripheral neuropathy tests and skin biopsy have been negative but something is obviously wrong...maybe only time will tell until the biopsy turns positive or maybe they made a mistake. Mine was done by Therapath. I think I heard it was the only one in the US. Thanks

My mother used to be a State Fair Blue Ribbon winning knitter....ugh. She knit the most gorgeous sweaters in WOOL, which she made me wear as a kid....Then when I was in 8th grade, mohair sweaters were the craze.

I can't wear anything other than really soft fleece, very soft cotton, chenille type things....any little blip on my bed sheets keeps me up all night. I can be somewhat distracted from this but, in general, things have to be soft and smooth.

I know kids with sensory integration issues are the same way.

See I do not like wearing bras because of the underwire and i'm always afraid they'll go up my chest. I also have issues with form fitting clothes.
