Default Be careful...Vitamin supplements can cause arrhythmia

We all know(or should know) that even over the counter medications, vitamins and or supplements can have side effects. Here on the forum many of us have taken our PN treatment into our own hands because there are not many in the health care field that really know what they are doing with this disease.

So, thanks to this forum I found a cocktail that actually helped tone down my PN to an acceptable level....B12 Super B complex multi vitamin from Costco, Methyl B12, Benfotian, Alpha-Lipoic & Grape seed Extract.

Right off the bat the Grape Seed gave me army dreams, battles, fights, running, escape, combat. So I eased up on it and later just stopped taking it.

I kept on with the other 4 and after about 2 months i started having heart arrhythmia's.....a lot of them. It's normal every now and then for the heart to add a beat, or seemingly skip one, but this was like the little drummer boy standing on my chest and marching in a parade. It would last from 30 seconds to a min or two. So I saw my local Doc who referred me to a cardiologist. Neither one of them thought my supplement cocktail had anything to do with this. EkG, 24 hr heart monitor and a Ultra sound were all negative, although he said I have a murmur which I have never had before.

Long-er story, but while on vacation in Manitoba I got separated from my supplement stash for over a week, and guess what??? Yep, the arrhythmia went away. I am guinea pigging myself now to find out which combo of the 4 causes it, but so far combining 2 at a time has produced nuttin...nada. So I will up it to a combo of three and work through all those possibilities. I'm just glad it's not a deck of cards I'm going though or I might become a lunatic.

I have a $6,250 deductible, so this little excursion has cost me close to 3 grand. So, if any of you experience any new side effects from the over the counter stuff you try....STOP TAKING it before pushing the panic button and see what happens first.

I'm not complaining, just passing along a possible useful tidbit of info
