Frown Sudden worsening after leaving diet

Hello,

My burning and paresthesia in feet are worsening since two days ago. Just when I left the low-carb diet (<50g carbs/day) I was trying last month. Is normal a so fast and sudden worsening after introducing carbs (more than 300g/day)? Any experience? Or is just my mind?

I must say that the reason I left the suggested low-carb diet was due to my recent sicca (dryness in mouth and eyes) syndrome (still some tests pending to check for Sjogren's). After some reading it seems than one of the side effects of ketosis (tested myself I was in ketosis) is dryness. And symthoms showed up two weeks ago.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't know about carbs, but I know dietary intake most definitely can most definitely have a fast and furious impact on my symptoms. With me, high salt is something I have to avoid, and I think MSG and alcohol also causes issues to a lesser degree.

Thanks a lot for your answer, Janieg.

Just a last question about it, how long does your diet-related flares (salt in your case) last? I ask it because my burning flare already last 4 days (not so intense though).

Regards.

My salt-induced flares subside within 12 hours or so. I try to drink a lot of water to help get the sodium out of my system, but it takes time.

Have you checked with a glucose monitor to see what your blood sugar does when you eat high carbs? A1c and Fasting Blood Glucose don't always show metabolic problems with sugar. Mine spikes horribly when I consume carbs, and there's no dispute that high blood sugar is an insult to nerves.

If you're not monitoring what happens to your blood sugar when you eat various food, you should consider it based on your symptoms. You can get glucose monitors really cheap (or even free). The strips are how they make money, but for just initial testing purposes, you don't need a lot.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion. Also I have a device to test blood sugar levels I used to test cetokines. I'll try it just after a pasta party

How much should be an acceptable level after carbs intake?

Regards.

That's the million dollar question. A lot of researchers believe the Am. Diabetes Assoc. ranges are not good. What you have to do to really test it well is eat or drink pure carbs...no fat and no protein. If you test at the 2 hour mark after your last bite, here's what the ADA says:

Normal: less than 140 mg/dl
Prediabetes: 140 mg/dl to 199 mg/dl
Diabetes: 200 mg/dl or higher

Many researchers believe if your glucose spikes above 140 at any point in time after eating carbs, you have a problem. Others say normal people would never go about 120.

Here's an article you might want to read.

Why Your “Normal” Blood Sugar Isn’t Normal (Part 2) | Chris Kresser

All I know is my glucose spiking to the 300 range is not good. That's what happened when I ate a bunch of pretzels on an empty stomach.

Two hours AFTER eating, yes. But they say nothing about spiking levels prior to that.

I've just done the test, two hours after have eating 400g of chickpeas.
The result is 144 mg/dl.

Does it mean I'm prediabetic or I have a glucose problem?

Should do I repeat the test tomorrow? or test it just after waking up?

Thanks for your help.

Regards.
