Default Alan's in a nursing home. They don't allow medical marijuana

Sorry I haven't been on the boards. Going back and forth to see him is really taking a toll. I now go every other day but with a broken hip, and using a rollator walker, this is very hard. We have no family at all.

He is in rehab and has to practice his balance and using his muscles (which is not working out at all). He finds it impossible to maintain any balance. He did start walking last week in the re hab room but he hates being in a nursing home. He has called 911 already and demanded to be taken to a hospital because his foot was swollen. They had given him lasix but it wasn't enough for him. He likes to be in control and calls 911 to get his way.

He wants out of there. He is demanding this. I can barely do this anymore.

What I don't understand is why they don't allow any medical marijuana at all to be dispensed in a nursing home. They give opiates but not medical marijuana nor will they allow me to give him cbd oil which helps his neuropathy a great deal. They say it's against the law and they have to follow the law. Medical marijuana (which completely takes away his neuropathy pain), is not against the law in this state. They want him to be in pain?? If anyone can tell me what to do in order to be allowed to give him medical marijuana, believe me I will do it. As it stands now, he is on a small amount of tramadol (half the dose I used to give him a long time ago before we found out that medical marijuana did the trick for him.\

When I asked them to please increase his tramadol because his feet were on fire, they shrugged and said "do you want to burn out his liver?"

Any advice is most welcome. Thanks much

Melody

They probably can't dispense due to liability & federal laws, still illegal federally..
Do you take treats or foods in to him? edibles?

I give him cbd edibles and tincture. I was told that if one is on tramadol, one cannot take medical marijuanal. Is this true or a scare tactic?
Thanks much

You may want to look into finding a patient advocate to help you.

Ombudsmen: Front-Line Advocates for Nursing Home Residents

I find it hard to accept their objections to better pain management. Especially since you have an option that works. Maybe his primary care doc can step in.

So many get hung up on "standard protocols" , which do serve a purpose, but too many times they become too rigid in their ways.

Here's an interesting article on MM in nursing homes:
