Default Gabapentin and Supplements?

Hello,

Can Gabapentin be taken with different supplements? I am considering taking Grapeseed Extract oil; fish oil and Tumeric Cucurim supplements.

Yes. I would look into PEA before Gabapentin.

I added a link to a PubMed article but the program forbids it due to low post count. You will have to cut and paste if you are interested.

PEA is palmitoylethanolamide. It calms the nerve endings.

I use PEA. I have to purchase it from Amazon. It's more popular in Europe and there is anecdotal evidence that it can be as effective as Gabapentin without the risks.

It's the 2nd time I read something about PEA being useful for PNP.
Sassafrass, what's the dosage you use? Do you think it works for you?

Thanks.

Thank you Sassafrass! I will look into that. I cannot get off the Gabapentin right now, I tried to reduce the dosage from 900mg to 600mg and my nerve pain returned.

I am not 100% sure that PEA works as I started it with ALCAR and other supplements. But the science looks good and I have so many issues with my nerves that it likely can only help.

Are you taking gabapentin 900 mg three times per day? What are your symptoms that returned? Thanks!

Yes, 900mg 3x a day. I have nerve pain down both legs and arms, very painful at the elbows, affecting the ulnar nerve and my fingers. Cannot hold a coffee cup. The medication lessens the pain; tingling; burning and sensitivity. Tried to reduce the med by 300mg and within 2 days, all the pain; tingling and burning came back. I am so grateful for the medication, it has given me a sense of normalcy and the ability to return to work.

I am 14 weeks post-op hysterectomy and apparently this is a complication
of surgery called Surgery-Induced Nueropathy. It started at 3 weeks post-op.
Totally normal prior to surgery. Praying it will resolve soon!

Dollymolly,

I haven't heard of post hysterectomy neuropathy. Does it normally resolve over time? I had surgery three months prior to the start of symptoms. However, my symptoms were misconstrued as cardiac, stroke, then labeled as anxiety induced when that didn't prove to be true. It took awhile to get a diagnosis. I had to keep pushing.

Thanks for the info!

My OBGYN stated that it should resolve itself in a year or so and no permanent damage should occur. I recently went on Whole30 to reduce inflammation, and it helped my symptoms. If you have acid reflux, your body is in an inflamed state.
I am doing everything I can to get better! It truly is a struggle.

Look up “post surgical neuropathies” and “Surgically-Induced Neuropathic Pain (SNPP)”. I am unable to post links.
