Hello!
34 f, type 1 diabetic for 19 years. Diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy, depression yaddi ya... My neuropathy in my feet is now crawling up my ankles. Was just looking around for some support and possibly help on some next steps. I've tried Lyrica, gabapentin, and currently am on 60mg of cymbalta which helped a lot with my moods and also my peripheral neuropathy symptoms. Now, the pain is worse than ever. Especially since it's been 80-90 degrees outside for the past week. I know this means my neuropathy is getting worse, I just don't know what other options, besides opioids, there are. I do have my card for THC and it's the only thing that truly allows me to sleep at night, but I can only do it at night due to work.. I am so young I cannot spend the rest of my life in this much pain. |

Hi Nikkilewis14,
It's too bad you're suffering so much. I'm a Type 2 diabetic and so far haven't been troubled so much by peripheral neuropathy though I have some problems with it. In general I try to stay away from meds though. The more you put into your body, the more complicated things become, what with one drug possibly interacting with other drugs. If you haven't already done this, you might want to look into ways of remedying peripheral neuropathy that don't involve drugs. Sometimes a change in diet or more exercise can work wonders.

Thank you for the support. I definitely want to try a diet change and possibly some herbal supplements, so I am open for discussion

I hear the despair of the thought of a lifetime of chronic pain. It can be overwhelming and all encompassing. However where there is pain there is motivation. Where there is motivation there is hope. For a start you have a definite diagnosis and cause of your neuropathy. That's a big advantage. So the first thing you need to do is control your diabetes as best you can. You can do this through a plant based diet. For a start read the study from this thread... A Dietary Approach for Managing Peripheral Neuropathy This study (below) shows how even type 1 Diabetes can be reversed by a plant based diet Reversal of type 1 diabetes using plant-based diet: A case study. A "nice" success story.... A Diabetes Diet Helped Me Manage Type 1 Diabetes | Forks Over Knives This is a great resource for all things diabetic/diet diabetes | Health Topics | NutritionFacts.org I have adopted this diet myself (around 6 weeks) and no longer experience any pain, though the numbness and tingling remain. It has given me focus and direction and a positive frame of mind. These are important factors. Combined with exercise and stretching I feel and look a lot younger. I believe I can eliminate all PN symptoms eventually. |
