Default Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy - HBOT

Hello,

Has anyone here tried HBOT for their neuropathy? Does anyone know of any neuropathy patients who have gone through this treatment? I have found a Naturopathic doctor that I really like that uses this for neuropathy and other ailments. He makes no wild promises or cures, but say it can help but it is expensive.

However my Neurologist says he has talked to several patients who tried and none got any benefit from it and at considerable cost.

A Google search has many positive posts, but I could not find a negative post.
Why are there so many differing views on the same topic. Money?

Thank You,

JKPHOTO

Confused Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Thanks.

I think I have read that or similar. I understand that it can be very useful with the non healing wounds. My condition seems to be progressing with all that I have done. If it could help, I think it would soak up a lot of resources and time. I am 60 years old and have had the condition for quite some time. I think to get any results, it would be an uphill battle with many sessions at considerable investments of money and time. All for a chance it helps, and then for how long? Or possibly not at all. No guarantees and no one will go out on the limb with promises.

Hi there,

Try doing the "Advanced Search".

I do recall old threads about HBOT on the PN Forum.

p.s. just wanted to suggest you also check on the RSD/CRPS Forum. Different condition, but there may be something helpful in the threads there.

I talked to someone recently who had gone through HBOT.He explained that his legs "did not work because of nerve damage" secondary to Chemotherapy for bladder cancer and he was reliant on a wheelchair. He said he had 4 sessions of HBOT an hour at a time and he now walks unaided.

I also noted that top sportsmen ( premiership footballers and rugby players) use HBOT to speed recovery from injury.

I therefore invested in an Oxygen Concentrator and now if I watch a film on Netflix etc, I do so using one. Its not a hyperbaric chamber and the oxygen levels are only marginally increased. I don't know if it has made any difference. I don't know if it even works. But its quite pleasant to use and makes me feel I am doing something useful even during "Love Death and Robots"

I got it from Amazon.

Why do you think your condition is progressing. I've been dealing with neuropathy for 10 yrs since hip replacement and if anything the neuropathy has improved. I have posted what I take and use for my issue and wonder if you've tried any of my protocols.

An after thought, I have a friend and she's probably dealt with neuropathy for 40 yrs give or take, and she just turned 90...She's done everything that her doctors directed her to, from all the drugs, hyperbaric chambers and her neuropathy is from statins, radiation on legs for skin cancers, and she was told pre-diabetic, but I think she is diabetic..she loves her sugars. Anyway, she's been taking Grape Seed Extract for about 10 yrs or so now and I know she's a lot better and I don't know if she does any of the drugs anymore or not...I don't see her anymore since our bridge groups dissolved.

Hello,

I have tried many of the suggestions that you have offered and I thank you for those. Grape Seed Extract for about a year. Inosine and Bovine Myelin and others. I believe that diabetic neuropathy is different from surgery or radiation, but I am not sure how they differ. I had the neuropathy before I knew I was diabetic. I was eating the wrong foods for me. Not too much sweets, but carbs, like pasta, flour, noodles, refried beans and rice to name a few. The neuropathy started spreading rapidally about 2 years ago after a high A1C. 7.9. Spreading because one day it is in many areas, the next day, new areas are hit with the pain. So even though my blood sugar is in good control now, A1C 6.4, I am paying for the bad sugars from many years ago. But now the pain is lessening. Perhaps to better diabetic control. As the nerves get more damage, some of pain subsides. It is new areas that get the most severe pain. So quite a bit of numbness is setting in, but with less pain overall. Because there is so many area affected, reversal I think would be an uphill battle. So pain control is what I am focusing on. These are the reasons that I hesitate to try HBOT. I am not using GSE now since I did not feel it helped me. But I can get back on it.

In addition, neuropathy is usually the more severe the longer the nerves have been exposed to the high blood sugar. I feel I fall into that catagory.

Sincerely,

JKPHOTO

Hi again, 6.4 is still high end, if you could get in the 5.7 or lower or thereabouts...The white foods turn to sugar as I understand it all. I break down a eat some pasta but know what it can do so do not, and personally I've taken breads from my house...I'll have a burger now and then but don't bring breads into my house. If it's there, you know the story. I had a 5.5 A1C in 2019 and due to see my doc in a couple months so it will be interesting to see that #, as Covid has been hard on eating good and healthy. I'm not diabetic and don't want to be there.

You may not think Grape Seed Extract was helping but I'm sure it was, subtle for so many and if you do a search: Grape Seed extract and Diabetes you will get a lot of info. Effects of grape seed extract in Type 2 diabetic subjects at high cardiovascular risk: a double blind randomized placebo controlled trial examining metabolic markers, vascular tone, inflammation, oxidative stress and insulin sensitivity - PubMed

Grape Seed Extract covers so much from asthma to cancers and many more health issues.

Continue to find answers...

Yes, your are right. A better A1C can't hurt. 6'4 is 1 point in to diabetic range. I sometimes use a low-carb bread that does not spike my sugar. I bought a 1-2 person wok recently and cook a lot of stir frys. I will get back on Grape Seed Extract and see what happens. My frustration is that I have not felt that improvement was possible since I could not keep it from getting worse. So even though I am getting good advice, just because it does not help me, does not mean it won't help others. Clearly based on the number of your posts, you have help many sufferers. So you have my gratitude for the efforts you have contributed to this site.
