Default COVID-19 Vaccine For Those With Neuropathy - What Has Been Your Experience?

Hi all,

I haven't posted in a quite a long time. I hope everyone is well, relatively speaking of course. I'm going on with my life as best as I can as my SFN progresses. I haven't been taking the best care of myself but I do what I can with my busy life and the ongoing pandemic.

I will most likely be getting a vaccine in the coming weeks and I do have some choice apparently. My preference is for the Pfizer vaccine because I would like an MRNA vaccine for a variety of reasons, but what's relevant here is that I know at least one person suffering from SFN who has had an okay time with it. But that's the extent of my second hand experience. I came on here expecting some discussion as to weather any of the vaccines have had side effects unique to those with neuropathy, but that doesn't seem to be the case, unless I've missed it. So I'm wondering if any of you who have had any of the vaccines, whether just the first shot or both, can offer some feedback about your experience with that particular vaccine. I'm not sure there's anything to say here, and there will be so many other variables that can be relevant aside from suffering from neuropathy, but I thought I'd at least ask. I also ask because after losing my excellent neurologist, who moved to another part of the country, I've not seen a neurologist for years and can't ask about my unique risk factors. Well, I did see the person he recommended or left me to, but he was terrible like all the others and simply said there's nothing he can do for me other than offer me more pharmaceuticals, including opioids.

Anyway, thank you in advance for anything you can share, and again I do hope you're all as well as can be expected.

I now have a mix of large fiber and small fiber peripheral neuropathy. I received my two shots of Pfizer vaccine with absolutely no side effects. The second shot was on 3/15.

I have a history of PN. It is largely symptomless now. I did fear the return of symptoms before the first Pfizer Jab. However, apart from a sore shoulder for a day I had no symptoms. I didn't even feel the second jab and had minimal symptoms, just awareness of my shoulder the next morning. I played golf that morning, and I kid you not, my first shot was a hole in one!

If anyone wants to know more about my experience, then feel feel free to ask, I never tire talking about that shot.

Hi echoes long ago. Thank you for sharing your experience. It's been a while since I've talked to you on here. I hope you're alright these days, though I'm sorry to hear you now have large fiber neuropathy as well. How did you learn about large fiber involvement? Did you have another EMG? The last time I saw a neurologist, the one that did nothing for me and explicitly said as much, he mentioned current research on SFN is showing small fibers are intimately connected with large fibers and can indeed affect motor function. He said this after I mentioned I had some symptoms that would normally involve large fibers.

yes i was diagnosed with large fiber neuropathy via emg/ncs. I was diagnosed with large fiber first and then many years later with small fiber also. this was after a sarcoidosis diagnosis via biopsy.

have had SF idiopathic PN for 7 years. Completed both shots of Moderna in March. No pain and no side effects. Glad I did it.

I have severe Axonal Polyneuropathy and also ME/CFS. I had the third Moderna booster a week ago. With all 3 shots I had the common fluish side effects which lasted for 36 hrs. No change in my PN.

No problem at all with the two shots of Moderna.

Had Pfizer. Just the usually sore spot on the arm, and some chills for about 12 hours after the second. As usually happens with me, my neuropathy flare when I'm under any kind of physical stress, so I was flaring for those 12 hours too.
