It is not an autoimmune disease in itself but autoimmune diseases can be the cause of PN. It is not the "cause of the disorder" but is a term that describes the disorder. |

Thank you Atticus for the information, one other question if possible, does the disorder itself cause the body to be immune compromised?

--is not a cause of disordered immunity, but there are many immune conditions that can have neuropathy as a symptom (such as lupus, Bechet's, rheumatoid arthritis, and a host of others); and there are also a number of systemic conditions (such as many of the blood cancers) that can have symptomatic effects that include neuropathy.
So, in essence, most neuropathies are "secondary" to some other condition--part of the reason it's hard to get medical and fundraising attention specifically to it. There are, of course, primary neuropathies that are genetic/hereditary in nature. I suggest, if you'd like to see the scope of the condition and the many causes, taking a look at the Washington University in St. Louis neuromuscular website: Polyneuropathy Differential Diagnosis |

Thank you glenntaj, will do....The reason i ask is i had a 2nd dose of moderna and was sick for 2 days and trying to figure out what to do if it comes up booster shots are needed. I just dont want to **** off this P/N with more shots and get more symptoms. I just don't know how much of what symptoms i get are connected to vaccines i have gotten, i.e shigles, flu, hep A etc.etc. i am sure getting these disorders without the vaccines on the other hand may also cause one with P/N problems, Thanks,
