This post is indirectly related to PN but could still be of some interest. Sadly and yet again people are exposed to counterfeits. One wonders after tainted toothpaste and mouthwash, toys with lead based paints, and melamine in pet foods where and when it will end but probably not soon.
Diabetics don't have enough to struggle with just keeping the disease in check, blood sugars under control and side affects at a minimum they can also worry about test strip accuracy too. This may be relatively old news since it was first discovered in October, 06 but the investigation and the counterfeit operation are described in the link below. A foreign counterfeit ring distributed test strips to US and Canadian pharmacies - exact duplicates except for a fake lot number which ultimately led to the distributor, a company based in Shanghai. The fake strips gave errors and/or inaccurate readings - fortunately, it doesn't appear that anyone was seriously or irrevocably hurt before the ring was exposed. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...d=aCAuLKG2YwKc Alkymst |
