Default Article on "Can Icy Hot be Bad?"

Hi All:

Since many of us may use cremes to soothe burning feet from time to time, like Bio-Freeze, Freeze It, Blue Stuff, and yes, Icy Hot, I thought you might find this of interest.

I just booted up my computer, and there it was on my MSN home page.

Lightbulb this is fall out from the

tragic Ben Gay death.

Many rubs do not have Methyl Salicylate in them.

Biofreeze and Freeze It do not.

One should read the labels carefully. Over reliance on these rubs is not
a substitute for over exercising and damaging muscles/joints.
Also do not apply HEAT when using, since this increases absorption, of the aspirin related methyl salicylate.

Like with "anything" one should be sensible.

I agree Mrs. D.

I have always used Biofreeze and just recently bought some Freeze It. I don't find Freeze It to last as long though...but it does help. Originally, and when this all began, I used Icy Hot and it really increased the burning. And sometimes that Blue Emu or Super Blue has helped. I don't know why exactly as it is not as strong as Biofreeze. Maybe it was just soothing.

Yeah, I remember the Ben-Gay tragedy.

Well, I may either be from Mars, or a test case subject, or maybe I caught the darn thing in its infancy, but all I can say is while I use the Methyl B-12, I don't need Bio-freeze, Freeze It, or anything.

I am one lucky son of a gun, I really realize this.

Oh, I am starting a thread on Alan's new invention for his orthotic.

He's really ingenious in what he did.

Lightbulb I love my Biofreeze...

it works well for me.

Last night I had terrible burning... and a few times on vacation. I am starting to
link it to potatoes. We only have potatoes occasionally. And last night I had roast turkey/potatoes/yams. It was a mild activity day, so I don't think I strained my feet.

I am reading up on this:
http://www.helium.com/tm/303428/alle...amily-manifest

I have already cut out onions (last year--gas issues), and oranges (my arthritis improved, esp my knees), and now I suspect nightshade. I love peppers too..esp the red.
I had 3 little ones the day before in fact. Probably contributed to yesterday.

At this rate all of my favorites may be gone from my life! sigh.

Anyway I use the Biofreeze if the Alka-Seltzer doesn't work. Last night I did Alka-Seltzer and I could finally fall asleep, however.

And I will throw this in too... I am switching to the new Aleve liquigels for pain.
I was doing ibuprofen. The Aleve was on sale at Costco's, and I like liquigels in general.. The tablets did not work well for me when I had my leg tendon injury.
But I have to say the Aleve liquigels (for my arthritis) are fast acting..and one 200mg lasts almost 12 hrs for me! I am surprised at this effect. So I am passing that on.
Naproxen has the lowest risk for cardiovascular negative impact, followed by ibuprofen. Just so you know. I have orders to use as little as possible and only when necessary from my doctor. I think it is the liquigel formula -- must be delivering the drug quickly to where it is needed that is the reason. Just my theory.

My wife & I always have onions, garlic, & bell peppers either in
salads-raw, or cooked in a saute, braise, stir-fry, ke-bobs or stew. (Potatoes are occasional.)
Every day!
Its not a question of favorites, but of changing our basic staples.
I'm not sure I want to experiment.
I'm not the allergic type (no hay fever, antibiotic or medication issues) and the food issues I have are only casein base products (since infancy).
But statins & artificial sweeteners can affect my PN.

Mrs D- We don't know how to cook without onions, garlic & peppers.
We'd be lost, tasteless. I don't know how you do it.

Red face Believe me...Bob....

I feel your hunger!

I don't like it either. But when I see results for myself...well, I am motivated.

It took a LONG time to cut the orange juice cravings!

We used to use onions all the time, I love the Sweet ones.
And I love Red bell peppers.

But when I have these flare-ups...and I can look back at what I ate...
I have to wonder. I could live without potatoes... but the others hurt and I am still testing the nightshade theory. It might be additive... like peppers only that week, or something like that. The Reds are in season now too... sigh!

You know, I never thought about food giving me any kind of flare ups of my neuropathy. Once in a while I'll slice a red onion and put it in a salad. Otherwise, I never eat onions.

I don't eat potatoes, or anything white. No refined sugars and absolutely no starches after breakfast.

For breakfast, I will allow myself a low-carb bagel with a bit of cream cheese (at Dunkin Donuts). That's my guilty pleasure. And so far, my guilty pleasure is getting off the weight.

Alan cannot believe that we have either lost more weight or maintain our weight loss and we can still eat the muffins that I make all the time. We don't have more than one muffin at a time but jeez, a nice cup of coffee with a blueberry muffin, what more can a person want. Especially when that person has given up everything else!!!

I really don't miss the sweets but when my neighbors bring out their barbecues and they start marinating the Strip Steaks and the ribs, and the aroma drifts in through my windows, well you should see me go and grab my turkey burgers, sprinkle on a bit of low-sodium teriyaki and some liquid smoke. Then I George Forman it.

MMM boy. Don't miss the beef at all!!

I also eat tomatoes every single day. Have no problem with them whatsoever. Thank god for that because if I couldn't have my salad every day with my romaine lettuce, raw veggies, black olives, grape tomatoes and a bit of garlic and extra virgin olive oil, with a dash of sea salt and fresh ground pepper, I would indeed be a dead duck.

I have no idea what I would eat if I couldn't have that salad.

I mean, how much fish and chicken can a person live on????

lol

Mrs D,
My casein problem is additive. I can have pizza, but if I have pizza & ice cream, then the next day have cheese & crackers and maybe a gelato, then the next have something else dairy- it hits me.
I can tolerate a little,(non-dairy creamer in my daily a.m. coffee)
but add more and more for a couple of days and I feel as if I've got
the flu with throat constriction.
(Try to find a loaf of bread w/o sodium caseinate - many things have it, not just milk products- even "free" from milk products -like non-dairy coffee creamers)
I've lived with it all my life, my oldest son (age 38) has it too.
He can't tolerate dairy, at all - since infancy.
He was raised on soy formula 'Similac Isomil".
Its not the lactose, its the base, the casein.
My other 2 kids have it also, in milder forms.
