Small red dots--petechiae--or even larger blue black ones--pupura--are quite common among those with vascular compromise, generally autoimmune, such as is found in many of the anti-nuclear-antibody diseases. Basically, you're rupturing small blood vessels more often than somebody without compromises fo the blood vessel walls.
