Default Now I'm getting blamed for getting you into that outfit??

You will fit in that outfit. You will fit in that outfit.

Like the little engine that could.

Hopefully you won't have to go on prednisone but hey, if you have to, you may be like the 26 year old around the corner. She was on it for two months.

Did not impact her weight one bit. Her face never got the moon face look.

I always thought that if a person took prednisone, that they had to look like Jerry Lewis eventually.

Well, the girl around the corner looked perfectly fine.

So don't worry too much.

You'll be fine.

And keep rambling. Keeps us on our toes.

lol, Melody

P.S. I once took the fish oil. Made me go to the bathroom like crazy. I eat fish 5 times a week. I wonder if I have to take the fish oil also?? It's a good question. I'm hestitant to go back to taking it because it went right through me. Maybe once a week???

Hi. Thanks and sorry again. Anyhow I can relate to Silverlady somewhat. I think from 16 to 27 I lived very underweight. When I really moved toward recovery I had to gain 45 pounds to be at the minimum. I did this but the calorie level to do this was like 4500 a day. I had to retrain my mind to think of food and weight has meds. So I understand the mental side. The thing is like Silverlady said to eat this amount I often chose not the healthiest foods but that was ok in the eyes of treatment cause at least I was gaining. Now I'm still thin but my eating habits are not the best. My nutritionist does say its common for a year after to still have a sugar issue because your mind is still starved which makes it turn to glucose. I will offer some tips she has told me. First eat every few hours, balance of carbs/protein/fat,don't save calories that means balance calories through day.
Melody as for fish oil do you eat other sources of healthy omegas like olive oil, walnuts, flax seed. Watch the flax though cause that can make people go.
Silverlady good luck on your change as well. Remember balance and small goals. You need nurishment and you don't want a quick fix to go back. Its about lifestyle.Oh yeah Melody congrats on your new way of living

Default A lot of us who have gone gluten-free--

--without the actual evidence of celiac, or even gluten sensitivity from positive anti-gliadin tests, have done so due to the possible inflammatory and "intestinal-spreading" properties of gluten (see "zonulin" and "tight junction dysfunction"), but we've also noticed that, as long as we don't substitute with additional rice or potatoes, we're actually on a low-carb diet that is good for slow weight loss.

In essence, we're doing a modified version of the Atkins diet, without some of the extremes, like heavy saturated fat consumption, that many have been critical of with that plan. (We also tend to be fairly big on fruits and vegetables of all kinds, which the stricter Atkins people would not agree with, but which we need for the nutrients.)

I also tend to think that the Zone approach is helpful--small, frequent meals that balance far/carbs/protein and help to keep blood sugar swings to a minimum.

Even the paleo- or Neolithic diet seems helpful in this regard--eating as many unprocessed foods as possible and trying to make one's diet much like our hunter-gatherer ancestors'.

What all of these approaches have in common is an emphasis on avoiding simple and/or processed carbohydrates. There seems to be increasing evidence that these are worse for our metabolism in the long run than even considerable amounts of fat and protein (except for trans-fats, which really should be outlawed entirely, if that's possible).

So go at it Billye--give up the wheat and the white, and have a lot of orange, red, and green.

Yeah!!!! Let's hear it for Orange Red and Green.

And Throw in some Yellow stuff too!!!!

White stuff -- BAAAADD.

Green Stuff (and color stuff) - GOOOOOD

Oh, (and sorry to go off topic but this is funny). and it has to do with food because this happened at my local grocery store.

Now what would all of you do if you saw a grown woman in front of you and she has a beautiful body (she was about 35), and she had on a very nice pants outfit. A short crop top and low rider jeans. Now what would you do if you saw her bending over and the pants are falling to the crack of her you know what??

Well, when she stood up, the pants were still there (still showing the top of her you know what). So as I moved my shopping cart up to her, I very politely said (in a very low voice), "excuse me but your pants are falling down ". And she looks at me, she checks her BEHIND!!! and she gives me a look and says "Oh no, they're not". And I said "They're not???" oh my god, excuse me". And I headed for the other aisle.

Believe me, a person could be standing there nude, from this day on, and I won't open my mouth. Never again!!!

Lightbulb don't forget:

RED, BLUE and PURPLE!

These have tons of antioxidants which also help with inflammation.

The new V8 fusion with the pomegranate/blueberry base is just excellent.
No added sugars, high in potassium, and is one full serving of vegetables and fruits. (minimum per day recommended is 5 and best is 8). It is made with purple carrots! I've never even seen purple carrots! I can't even taste the veggies in it.

We did have some purple green beans last night that I found at the farmer's market, but when I steamed those, the purple went away and they turned green. So I was a bit disappointed with them.

I've been having one of these juices a day at breakfast and they are very good.
I bought them in 12 pks at Costco. But there are large ones in the grocery now.

Mrs. D.

Can a diabetic have this new V8 Fusion drink?

I have had V8 juice for breakfast (it's been a while though, cause I'm not a breakfast juice person).

But if this thing has anti-oxidants, it could be crimson, and I'll drink it.

I just don't want it to impact my sugar reading.

What do you think??

Lightbulb comparison:

V8 12 oz has 70 cal.

V8 V-fusion pomegranate has 150 cal in 12oz.

This is natural juice..no sugar added. This means natural fructose-- not other sugars-- diabetic diets allow for some fructose as a slow sugar.

Vit A 20%
cal 2%
vit E 20%
mag 6%
vit C 150%
iron 2%
folic acid 2%
potassium 370mg
sod very low 90mg

I don't know how you figure your carb allowances.
But this has far more antioxidants than V8- I like V8 too, esp after
working out..but the sodium tends to get me. The low Sodium one tastes terrible I think.

made from sweet potatoes, purple carrots, tomatoes, apple, white grape,
pomegranate, and blueberry.

Default Wow!

Thanks all of you!
Great suggestions and reminders for a healthy diet. Part of the weight gain is from lack of inactivity due to the inflammation and joints I'm sure. But part of it has to do with unlearning habits I formed due to having to gain weight. Daniella,
you are right. The body just craves carbs after it has been denied them for so long.

I've printed this thread to give me reminders. Mrs. D, I'm going to look for the Fusion. I had to quit drinking the regular V8 too because of the sodium.

Glenn,
I'm googling the gluten and inflammatory links.

I did really great until tonight when my husband got out the ice cream. Drat it, got to unlearn, unlearn, unlearn!!

I'm going to try some V8 fusion and see what happens to my sugar. If it doesn't go up, then it's a keeper. I find that fish is wonderful for my sugar reading. I have no idea why but it is.

And Billye: Get the low-fat, no sugar added ice cream. It's better than the other kind. I haven't had ice cream in about 5 years.

God I miss those days. But it's a trigger for me. In my house, all you will find is a cabbage patch full of veggies in my refrigerator. And fish.

And hopefully tomorrow, V8 fusion.

Mel

Melody I think if you have some protein with the drink it will help with blood sugar level so maybe some cheese or turkey for example. Also fruit and vegetables in the whole because of fiber helps with blood sugar levels. Silverlady I think trying to switch to whole grain carbs and also don't they mak v8 in low sodium or maybe a place like whole foods would carry similar if you like it.
For a somewhat icecream like treat if you freeze yogurt its really good. I also tried greek yogurt and that is very good. Its different then regular yogurt but more protein and less sugar.
