Default Pants style

Hi Melody:

It seems to be a current style among some young people, usually teenagers, to wear low slung trousers and pants. For some the object is to reveal the tops of the underwear and obviously for others the skin remains bare. Along with this may go a too large pant size, leading to bagging down half the inner legs. Who can explain teenage styles? I have often wondered what the point is of the baggy pants but don't have the nerve to ask any of the wearers. Too large pants also make walking precarious and lead to much hiking up of the waistline and an occasional stumble and fall.

Well, who can explain the "bustles" of yesteryear? I don't know what the point of those were, either. Does anyone here know?

Thats funny. A couple of my friends where hip huggers those are the names of the pants that show the crack. You can see their thong and some with the tatoo. I think this is weird but always have been "old" for my age or a little discreat I guess. Melody I can see you saying that. Funny!

Well, I'm glad you all think it was funny. Believe me, if you saw the look this over 30 person gave me, well, I just wanted to slink away. As a matter of fact, that's exactly what I did do, SLINK AWAY!!!! You know what I don't get?? Well, I DO get the teen thing, they are trying to express themselves, with their various piercings, (even their tongue), and the 50 earrings on one ear, and the pants down around their thighs with the underwear showing (these are what the teen boys do aroundhere). And if the person were a 17 year old young girl, I would have smiled and said "oh, she's just expressing herself.

But this was 35 year old (maybe older), gal with a fabulous body, in a grocery store, bending over the eggs. Not a pretty picture.j

And what's with all the pregnant girls showing their bellies?? This is do not get. They are walking around my neighborhood, 7 or more months pregnant and wearing crop tops. Anyone see those around where you live?

You should have seen the expression on Alan's face the first time he saw a young pregnant girl's belly bump. The look he gave me was priceless. I believe his exact words were "doesn't she know the top doesn't fit her?"

I laughed, but I was thinking the same thing. Then I found out, that's the look she was aiming for.

Oh for the good old day!!!!!

I'd even wear a bustle if I had to!!!

lol Mel

P.S. I realize this is a thread about blood sugar spiking. Sorry to have hijacked it.!!

I wouldn't worry about hijacking the thread. This is a support group, not just a medical encyclopedia location. Sometimes a good laugh is what people need, and chatting to develop a relationship can result in a lot of emotional support when you need it due to stresses over chronic pain. That is just my humble opinion -- I know others feel differently. But I can get factual information a lot of places. This is the only place I get relationships from people who actually know what I am suffering first hand. You cheer me up when I am down!

Oh just to inform all of you, tonight Alan and I are hopping on the access-a-ride and we are heading off to the Neuropathy Support Group Meeting. It's in the CBS Building in NYC.

Should be interesting.

Will tell you all about it when I return home.

Just cross your fingers and toes that the Access a Ride shows up on time and we get there.

They've hung up us before.

Melody

I agree Melody you always lift my spirits by your story. I need a little "happy" in my life. Do you have to get around I assume NY by public transportation always? I know parking is so expensive but I can't imagine doing that with the pain level. I remember when I was 18 I moved to Chicago and lasted a week. It was winter and waiting for transportation I just could not get with. Ny is a fun place though. I lived in NJ about an hour away and would go to NY sometimes. I love broadway shows. Ok keep us updated.

I haven't taken a train in NYC, well, I can't remember when I last took a train. You have all kinds of nuts riding the subways today. They'll march right up to you and take whatever you are holding and walk away. They also just ride the subways all day and all night. Very unstable people. It's quite a shame.

Alan is not afraid to take a train. It's hard on him because he wears the Cam Walker. But he hates to call Access-a-ride because they always keep you waiting. Up to one hour sometimes.

Buses are usually okay except if you have arthritis because if you don't get a seat, you have to hold onto the bar on top, and the bus pitches back and forth and wrenches your arms, and the bus is usually filled with school kids who are absolutely crazy. Their language, their screaming, and their complete disregard for adults is absolutely appalling. I try not to take a bus after 1 because that's when the teens come on (with their cell phones), and they scream and try to impress each other.

I really think there should be a complete separate transportation system for people over the age of 50. Maybe I'm wrong for feeling this way, but I've seen and heard too much. It's really nasty what goes on.

The other day Alan was coming home from one of his appointments. There was a man on the bus directing people where to sit. He was bossing everyone around. The driver told him to "sit down and zip it". Alan was standing (wearing the shoe boot thing), and the guy started messing with Alan (don't mess with my Rocky by the way).

So Alan whips out his security guard identification badge and calmly tells the guy that if he doesn't start behaving he will be arrested. The guy sneered (he was obviously unstable) and started muttering to himself. The bus driver thanked Alan. (See why I dont' like to ride public transportation???).

I usually take Access-a-ride everywhere I have to go. The people are very nice, you get to talk for as long as the ride takes and people are very friendly. There are no screaming crazy kids pushing and pulling.

Maybe I'm getting old, but really, the younger generation is completely out of control.

Just my take on the NYC transportation system.

Mel

Melody that would be a nice idea about over 50. I don't know if it will happen but nice idea. I agree about young people. I was meant to have grown up in the olden days. Its always nice when someone holds a door open but guys my age its one in a million. Well I hope all goes well.
