Just curious if anyone knew this off the top of their head. I noticed when filling in spreadsheets of bloodwork over the past seven years that something called MPV is nearly always low. Reference range is 7.5-11.5, and mine is usually 7.0 or so.

I'm guessing it doesn't mean anything because no doc has ever mentioned it to me. I did look it up and didn't quite understand the explanation (too much brain fog, I guess).

If this is too off topic and I get no replies, that's cool.

I would be interested to know what it is. There are so many things listed on our lab reports that I have no clue what they are. Why don't they just spell it out in plain english or at least give us a list to figure out what they are?

Hi Fanfaire, i done a quick google and come up with this.

MPV – the mean platelet volume (MPV) it represents the average size of the platelets within a blood sample. This is a relatively new test and not included in by all laboratories. Measured in cubic micrometers or femtoliters, normal values are generally between 7 and 11 fL.
A reduced MPV is indicative of small platelets, and may be consistent with disorders such as aplastic anemia. An elevated MPV is encountered when platelets are larger than average, such as in Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura.

Brian that was great,it use to be taken only if a Dr. was pretty sure ITP
was involved...Went throug this when my oldest was about 7 got a

That explanation made so much more sense to me than the website I'd been reading. So I've got borderline small platelets. Probably nothing to worry about, but if the level ever drops, I'll have my doc make sure I'm not anemic.
