Default Addiction and terminal illness

I truly do not understand that at all. If you have a terminal illness, by definition you're dying from that illness. Why is addiction even a concern at that point? The first order of business should be adequate pain relief. Period!

This has been a long time ongoing discussion in the medical community and they've actually made strides forward with this subject but it's by no means resolved. It's not just the addiction factor....it's that doctors are *scared* cause if they write too many scripts for heavy duty pain meds they can get in deep trouble with the government.
