Default Yule

Where I live, On December 21st we will still be losing daylight...

On December 22nd, the losing stops.....Saturday---the day the Earth Stood Still, lol.

On December 23rd, we will get 4 seconds MORE daylight then the day before...

on Dec. 24th we will get 8 seconds MORE daylight then on the 23rd...

Things are shortly going to be looking up!

So that is Good Jul or Yule for you'all.

(I am at the end of my rope with the light thing----now, just to deal with 4 more months of cold. There is no 'fever' in my cabin! I think some one got confused, or is not from these parts to have termed this period 'Cabin Fever'....this is called 'Cabin Freezer' for this old geezer.) I am gonna go swaddle myself in several quilts for a few more days....come out for a little nog...then go hibernate for another 6 weeks and hope the ground hog does not see his shadow.

Default Jul, Yule, or Yul ....??

Wasn't that the bald guy starring in the King and I? [Could not resist!]
I too am trying [tho not succeeding] to go into a sort of 'hibernation mode' and counting the minutes untill the days actually GET LONGER! I want LIGHT!
My electric lap robe is working full time now, it seems. I cannot get and stay warm enuf long enuf to be truly comfy! Hibernation sounds more and more like a good option.
Cycleops? Old geezers we are not! If I judge right, we are about similar ages...but our 'conditions' do make us feel far far older than we are! Bummer! for Sure!!
May we all get some warm wet spells, the kind that do not cause flooding and may be get thru this winter in better shape than when we began!

Ho and HO! without one Hummm in there ! 's - j

Default Speaking of which--

--in the New York Times Tuesday Science Times section today, there is a nice little summary article about Seasonal Affective Disorder, once thought to be a "made-up" illness and now thought to affect a substantial percentage of people, especially at higher latitudes:

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/18/he...ce&oref=slogin

BTW--this was a particularly good Science Times week; in addition to that article there's one on ancient tuberculosis infections in hominids linking them to lower Vitamin D level/absorption at higher latitudes among people with darker skin (evolutionarily, light skin pigment as an adaptation to living at higher latitudes happened pretty late in the game), an article about a health insurance advocate for the elderly, and some good stuff on smart machines and cosmology. Take a look at them all from:

http://www.nytimes.com/pages/science/index.html

Lightbulb I feel much better

this year using my light visor for the dark times!

I have a thread here about it~~ it even helps with pain.
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/sh...ighlight=visor

I am still using it on the lowest setting..for a minimum of 1/2 hr each morning.
Easy, nice.

I have 'seen the light'. I bought one of those fancy boxes 15 years ago. It does work if used in the morning....my issue is I want to sleep in lately.

I also get D's....not grades, nor foundation garments....I use extra vitamin D. It has been linked to the MS and lattitude thing..in terms of not enough sunlight to synthesize it. My lattitude is causing havoc with my attitude.

And yes, I believe it was Yul Brenner???? The King and I. pa rup pa pa pum....No pum intended.

And no I am not an old geezer yet....just practicing.

Oh, and if I get any lighter...I might be construed for Casper the Ghost....and discussing the totally wrong holiday!! Tan never happens for me....It is lobster red or ghostly white..or an interetsting combination there of..like peppermint candy canes. I did forgo those this year....I kept up picking boxes that said made in China. I guess they do Christmas over there too.

Nope, not the correct answer.

Think of the movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still..

You're probably way to young to remember it.
