Update:
After wearing a Halter Monitor for 24 hours, my Cardiologist said I am having extra beats coming out of the top and bottom of my heart, evidently from the Mexiletine. I didn't notice anything before starting it. The ECG was normal.

I hope I'm saying this right. The beats are coming in twos, so while it's not normal, it's OK as long as we don't increase the dosage, and if the symptoms get worse, we stop. The Mexiletine has taken care of about 80- 90% of the new "zaps" to my feet, so I would like to stay on it, but not if it means damaging my heart. The cardiologist said at this point I am safe.

Hugs,
Jan

Thumbs up Thanks for the update...

I was just thinking about you, and was going to post soon!

What dose are you on?

No heartburn/reflux yet?

Sounds like you are being supervised well. That is a good thing, that you
had the 24hr monitor, too.

Mrs D~
I'm on 150mg 2x's/day. I asked if the heartburn could be from the new med and the Resident said no, so I didn't ask the Cardiologist. So, it probably is from it...... thought so.

I should have known to ask the "real" doctor as well as the Resident. I'm sure that question wasn't relayed when the Resident prepped the Cardiologist about me.
Hugs,
Jan

Default Janster - aren't those other 'stickies' ....

well, plain old 'STICKY'? I went that route, totally neg., which, I guess is a good thing, but....what else is going der heck on? Everyone just scratches their heads [maybe other areas out of eye-shot] and goes: DER WHAT?

All I can say is a sort of Dirk Gently -Psychic Detective [book series by Douglas Adams of Python fame] in that you go where you need to go, even tho you've no idea of where you are going,....because that is where you need to BE!...???? As with all our conditions, and the issues that stack up on it all, well, you never know when/where/why or by what accident you find--the answer.

Lightbulb here is an example...

This drug is not frequently used. And if the doctor does NOT refresh his/her
memory... or learn about it.. you have to find these facts yourself:

http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic3/mexiletine_ad.htm

GI side effects are huge with this drug..and it is they that lead to the
majority of treatment failures.
41% of upper GI side effects is a very large number.

And this is an interesting factoid:
Quote:
Additionally, in one controlled study in five normal subjects and seven patients, the clearance of caffeine was decreased 50% following the administration of Mexitil®.
So be careful with coffee/tea consumption.

mrsd~
The GI side effects that I experience are infrequent. Now anyway. Thanks for the heads up on the coffee consumption.

Default I thought it was me...

Dear Dahlek;

It's your first sentence that throws me off. Could you explain because it sounds worth repeating with just a few revisions so we can understand.

Hope all is well with you today...
