For all you fruitcake lovers out there (and I have no idea why you guys like the stuff), but I bet you've never tried this Irish dessert.

It's called Trifle.

I had it at an ex-friend's house for Thanksgiving once and I couldn't get enough of it. I just looked it up on the net.

Here's the link

Oh my god, you'll die and go to heaven.

Oh, about 50 or so years ago, my grandmother made some kind of dessert with lady fingers and sugar and some little chocolate thingees.

She called it Beahn cu man chatay!!!

Don't ask me what this means. I have no idea. But I once saw the actual recipe on the side of a box of corn starch. In english the recipe was Vanilla Blanc Mange.

All I know is whenever I went to my grandmothers' house, I would eat plates of this stuff. It was custardy like and between that and the lady fingers around the plate, I went to town.

No wonder I ballooned up!!!! lol

P.S. I'm so glad I now eat sprouts.

My wife has a couple of old "from scratch" recipes for fruitcakes that are very good - even long time fruitcake haters have enjoyed her fruitcakes.
