Ask yourself this question.

If a cigarette can kill, and it says on the pack of cigarettes, that yes indeed, stopping smoking now can significantly increase your life span, and that cigarettes can contribute to lung cancer, etc. etc.

Then why does the government allow Cigarettes to be sold.

Because unfortunately, all the government cares is about money. And oil. Because if the government had our best interest at heart, and if they truly cared about what is good for our well-being, do you think the government would allow the manufacturers of cigarettes to continue to manufacture them.

It's all about money.

There is no good reason why some people should have golden faucets in their bathrooms, and others have to sleep in huts. Look at New Orleans. They still haven't done what they were supposed to do.

It takes Oprah Winfrey and people like George Clooney to donate their time and money so people can get their lives back.

I just don't believe everything I'm told by the government any more. And I most certainly don't think that we are ALONE in this universe.

There is an order to things, this I do believe. We all have 2 eyes, one nose, one mouth, 2 arms and 2 legs. If you go lower, the dogs have all these things but they don't stand straight up. Go back even further and you have the apes. Even fish have 2 eyes. Yeah, some animal life forms differ, but basically we are two eyes, one nose, one mouth, two arms and two legs.

I would imagine that life on other planets evolved similarly. The only difference would be bigger eyes (if the planet has less light), bigger ears, or smaller ears (depending on the sound quality on the planet). And we all have to use food as sustenance. So it might be a different shaped mouth.

And we have to get around and be mobile, so there you have the two arms and two legs.

I would love if someone (other than Jess Marcel Jr.), opened the lid on the Roswell thing. I've read the book and watched countless tv shows.

I believe the military brass that came forward and admitted "yes, there were creatures that crash landed in 1947".

I just wish "our government" would own up to it.

I believe I know why they can't do this. It would cause such a panic in people (especially the older ones). People like their lives, their religious beliefs, etc. It is what sustains them. Perhaps they might feel that they can't believe in these things, if aliens were actually presented to them.

To me, it should not make a difference. If you believe in something, why do you automatically have to Not believe in it, just because we've encountered alien life???

I think the subject is absolutely fascinating.

It's not just the older people who would be scared!

I'd be scared senseless myself, but living on the dryest continent with endless draught, and Perth has not seen a winter in years now. I am in NSW and this is our hottest summer on record. The planet is changing and its getting bloody hotter down under, this is more frightening to me than any alien.

I would think that if there is a benefit maybe it would be a technology, enviromental, fuel, food sort of thing more than anything.

The fears are, visitation might be the same as the
'Outer Limits' short story, and TV show - that the aliens visited us
with a manual titled:
"To Serve Man"
(Turned out to be .......... a cookbook!)

Bob, the episode To Serve Man, starred Lloyd Bochner, (can't remember who else), and the Canimites came to earth as giant 7 foot tall beings who, by the end of the episode were taking us away in their spaceships. They had to fatten us up first.

BUT YOU GOT THE SERIES TITLE WRONG. Not the Outer Limits

IT WAS THE TWILIGHT ZONE.

How do I know? Because you have the El Supremo of Sci Fi Person here.

Never missed an episode of TZ and never missed an episode of Outer Limits (which had two runnings)

God I miss these shows. Thank god I can watch them free online. You gotta love the internet.

bye for now.

Melody

P.S. I refuse to believe that aliens would travel all these miles just to eat us.

Well, maybe the people on the Biggest Loser (god love them). lol

OK, I stand corrected- but you get my drift.............
It was the idea, not who starred, or which show,
that I wanted to put across.
I don't, but many do have fears, about alien contact.

Yeah, I know it was the IDEA. I was just foolin with ya!!!!

And you are absolutely right on the money. In my neighborhood, everybody is over 80. Some are close to 100. These people are so religious, they have altars in their living rooms with pictures of saints, etc. and fresh flowers every day. They get up in the morning and go to bed, just living to pray and worship. It's what gets them through their day. And bless them for that. They also have priests coming into their homes to bless their houses. My mother did that once when I was a young child.

Hey, whatever gets you to reach 100 (like the lady across the street who still does her own shopping and does not use a cane and just walks using her shopping cart, well if they can live to the ripe old age by having a belief system, more power to them. I do know though, that if a spaceship landed in Washington DC, then absolutely every old person in my neighborhood would have a heart attack on the spot.

These people have no knowledge of the internet, no knowledge of computers, no knowledge of anything. They live in their comfort zones and they can't imagine any other kind of life.

Now the other ones, the younger generation, well I imagine they would be hootin and hollering and staring at the tv.

Oh, did I ever tell you the joke I pulled on Alan the day they released Independence Day (with Will Smith). It was July 3, 1996. I'll never forget this. They were having a 30 minute special promo of this movie and it was on at 7:30 p.m. But they presented it like the Orson Welles thing, (in 1938) when they did the War of the Worlds.

If you didn't know you were watching a Mock TV Show, you thought you were watching the real thing. They showed the giant spaceships on the tv.

So at 7:30 I put it on, I saw they were doing this show as if Washington was being invaded, I went into the living room and I told Alan, Put on Channel 2, we're being invaded"

You should have seen his face when he turned on the tv. He kept going outside and looking at the skies and saying "Melody, where are the spaceships??" I just said "I don't know but isn't it cool, they're landing all around us". He started to panic. (I'll never forget this). He was running back and forth, going outside, and then, when he decided to call 911, I saw his panic and I said 'hey, take a second, this is a tv show promoting the new film "Independence Day". He kept asking me "are you sure"?

I tell you, they did such a bang up job, you thought we were being invaded. Finally, toward the end of the show, they informed the watching audience that this whole thing was a promotion for the movie, well Alan was so relieved.

I couldn't understand it. I would have jumped through the stars to be able to witness such a thing.

I guess not many people are like me.

I don't mind new stuff, I like to get out of my comfort zone. Otherwise, I get to stay in a rut and I don't want that.

But I do imagine that the majority of people would definitely show the same behavior as Alan did when I pulled that joke on him.

Hit me with a wet noodle.

lol

Default I don't know if I'd like to experience the aliens of "Independence Day"--

--they were angry, and they wanted to just use us and the planet as resources. (Maybe not eat us, but it certianly wouldn't have been healthy.)

Now, if ET's people landed, or those in Close Encounters of the Third Kind, that'd be kind of fun. But you know humans, they'd shoot first and ask questions later . . .

Glenn:

Did you know that they made a new version of The Day the Earth Stood Still? It stars Keanu Reeves as Klaatu, (made famous by the fabulous Michael Rennie).

Oh I can't wait!!!

Gort. Klaatu Barrada Nikto lol
