Default Posters feeling attacked

I have noticed that there is an increasing trend of people feeling that if they are disagreed with or are being asked for additional information to clarify or explain what they are asserting, that they are being attacked. Disagreement or having a differing opinion is not an attack. I have seen people attacked on here because of their view or what they have or have not done treatment wise but it is not common. If you put up an idea or claim or assertion you have to expect it to be discussed further and you have to expect some people not to agree with you. Because you believe something or are convinced of something or think research you have read concludes something which should be accepted by all, does not mean that everyone will agree with you and if they dont it does not mean necessarily that you are being attacked.

Default A Second

Good point Joe - I know we all have our bad days and maybe cross a line over to what may be construed as an "attack" - but I think that is very rare and our moderators - who are always on the ball here - usually take immediate action if they feel a post is inappropriate.... I hope newcomers understand that we ask questions of them so that we can get a grip on their condition - and hopefully those who are knowledgeable in that area - jump in..... And yes, we are all individuals with differing opinions - and posting in an "open' forum is going to of course invite different opinions - which we can choose to ignore or pursue if they are helpful to us....

In those situations there are somethings we all can try -

If you re- read the post you are replying to {usually the original post} and then double check the one you are sending before you submit it - you might catch something that could be misunderstood or that you misunderstood.

Often just a change in the wording, or asking a friendly question- if you're not sure of the facts or the meaning.

And a friendly PM can really help to clarify if something really comes across as troublesome and you aren't sure how it was meant..
Just a simple -
How did you mean your post on "whatever thread it was"?
I wasn't clear on it.

I've used these techniques over the years and I think they worked for me
