Hi Cathie, every couple of years i used to get an attack of gout in my foot, the big toe used to go a real red color and swollen, dam sore too, but after i increased my water intake i have never had another attack since, worth a thought i suppose.

Well, the Oncologist who follows my MGUS has a copy of the test and she is not concerned over the elevation relating to the MGUS, so that was good news.

I don't think I have Gout, I hurt but my toe, back of foot and heel area don't seem to be an issue. My feet do burn, but I would think that if that were a Gout symptom, someone would have picked up on that and tested Uric Acid before.

I wonder about the gut issue. And, I will see my Internist on Tuesday, so maybe he will figure this out...

I think I also remember someone on here MrsD or maybe LizaJane, saying something to the effect of repeating tests when they come out abnormal, so maybe he will do that... (speaking of LizaJane, where is she?)

I wish I could get off of the Prednisone Shiney Sue, and I continue to try...
MrsD, did you see my post on the number of AlkaSeltzer? That is maybe once a day, but 2 tablets. I find it does help the burning...

I swear I remember this doctor telling me to drop my calcium to 200mg 3 x a day... I have been taking a LOT more than that... Anyone know recommended dose for preventing Osteoporosis? This sounds really low...
Thanks for all of the input,
Cathie

Another wierd test result...

My Internist ran bloodwork for Uric Acid test yesterday, and called to tell me it came back normal. I forgot that the other test, which showed a nearly double elevation of Uric acid, was actually in 24 hour urine, not blood...

Anyone have any idea what could be going on here? Why would it be normal in the blood and so elevated in urine?

I am not on any of the things MrsD listed, except I have taken AlkaSeltzer, at most 2 tablets, not every day and a little coffee... I might have a little Kahlua when we have Mexican food, usually none... Otherwise, zip...

I don't think I have ever been tested for this. Thyroid issues, perhaps? Fatty liver, whose enzymes occasionally elevate??? Who do I go to next? Original test was done by a diagnostician, not a treating doc, so I really cannot go back there for help...

Yorkiemom 01-23-2008 11:24 PM

He said that I could develop gout, but not everyone does... Meanwhile, why would it be elevated in urine and not in blood?

as I mentioned before...

a sudden drop in white cells following an infection, dumps purines into the
system to be cleaned up. This is temporary, until another infection occurs.

If uric acid is being eliminated thru the urine, that is good. It is not building up in the blood to cause problems.

Yorkiemom 01-24-2008 06:26 PM

Thanks MrsD. Maybe I have/had an infection masked by the steroids. Internist also said uric acid levels could be responsible for some of the joint pain.

Forgot Allopurinol today until 2:30... Joints screaming, but better after dose. No idea whether due to Prednisone cut, Uric Acid elevation or stress...

I am dead tired, hurting all over, scary chest pain and my dad had a stroke last night...

Off topic here... I have tried REPEATEDLY to get him off of STATINS, as some may recall. Today, his legs will not support him and he cannot stand...
