Actually (and a Hi to Hey Joe). in my case, I really don't think it's a fad diet because I went to a nutritionist (2 actually, because one was at Cornell). It's all about my diabetes.
I've just cut out all the crap. I don't miss it and because I know that I did this to myself, well, when I look at my nice grilled chicken over my nice healthy greens with lots of sprouts (don't laugh), I actually like this. I don't miss the potato in the evening. I don't miss the gravy. (Maybe I do miss a meatball or two), but I can always make turkey meatballs. I don't deprive myself. I just don't miss eating that way anymore. And my body shows it. So I do this for myself. It's not for everybody, that's for sure. I haven't watched the rest of that tape yet. I can't wait to see what she thinks people SHOULD eat!!! Probably tofu and almonds. Neither of which I like. We have to find a happy medium. I lost my weight, I got my sugar down, so for me, it's good. Oh, Alan just announced. "We're going to Dunkin Donuts tomorrow, I'm not ready to give up my coffee roll". That was a really fast fad diet, now wasn't it?? lol Melody |
Shiney Sue, I am so sorry to hear you are in the hospital. Here's hoping you are better very soon.
HeyJoe, I agree with moderation. Think about all the things put on this earth to nourish us, what our species has had available to eat -- in nature. It just makes sense to avail ourselves of many things in moderation. There's the catch for most of us....MODERATION! I have been watching my body (inspired by you, Melody!) and have lost 22 pounds. I have a goal of losing at least 35 more. I have been very heartened in this and in my new found walking program by many on this site. Now if our dang weather will just cooperate so I can get out to the park and walk!!!! Thanks to all of you. |
Hi All
It's nice to have a computer in the hospital, and thanks for the good
Wishes it means a lot to me.. I eat very much the Way Mel does, and believe me she is on a good diet for us,because of the diabetes, and I hope I never get that sick again. Not to happy about these tests through.. I agree Susan it is so cold, and it hurt just goingg from van and into the hospital yesterday,it is enouh go away. I'm sure that won't work.Ha :hug:Sue |
Here's hoping everybody stays nice and toasty.
I'm going to look up choline and see what other foods I can eat besides eggs. They can't be the only food source for choline, right?? mel P.,S. Just googled and found 3 sources that I can do. Wheat Germ, Cauliflower, and soybeans. Guess who is going back to the produce stand tomorrow.?? |
i dont think that yours is a fad diet, it has worked for you, lost wieght, less medications.Your diet makes sense to reduce the effect of your diabetes, and hopefully the pain in your feet until the next phone call. Now Dr. Day on da udder hand fits the bill. Wild unsupported claims, exxageration, sensationalistic negative view of what many people are currently eating.
Go to dunkin donuts once in a while and enjoy yourselves, you earned it |
Why thank you Joe:
Guess what I did when I woke up this morning?? (Well actually I took it down last night and spruced it up a bit). We have a juiceman juicer. I believe it sells for over $100 on the internet or if you go to the store. About 8 years ago, someone was moving out of their house, around the corner from mine, and she had a moving away sale. There, on the front porch, was this new Juiceman Juicer. Now I know how much these things are. This lady was selling all the contents of her house (nice stuff), but she was practically giving it away. The juicer was marked $2.00. I just looked at it and said "Now why on earth would someone give away a new Juiceman Jr"?? I naturally thought there was something wrong with it, but I knew this neighbor so I just asked the question. She laughed and said "I'm moving, and someone gave us another one, so I'm giving this one away, I don't need two of them". I grabbed my two bucks and practically threw it at her. I used it for a while, then got lazy. It's easier to buy V8, this I know. But last night, I was determined to do the live enzymes thing. So I bought all the fruits and veggies, and this morning, I'm in the kitchen making fresh juice. Alan wakes up and goes, "oh look at you". Well, this little glass of juice was absolutely delicious. I just kept saying "Alan, think of all the live enzymes going into your body, into your arteries, into the myelin sheath around your nerves" Hey, I give imaging it's due, believe me. See, people have to clean up afterwards, and I think that's why so many people don't do juicing. It's a lot of work, and people have to go to work so they just grab whatever that have to grab and off they go. So I took 10 minutes to do this and from now on, every morning, we shall do LIVE ENZYMES lol I wonder what wonder juice concoctions are out there and what I can add to this juice. I wonder if I can add wheat germ (to get the choline). We then went to Dunkin, where Alan had his two donuts. Then he went to his gym. I think if someone tells me I have to give up my morning coffee at Dunkin, I just may strangle them. It's my one little guilty pleasure. So think of some new things I can put in my juiceman juicer. And I wonder if I put carrots in, then can I make carrot muffins, with the pulp that comes out of the other end?? bye for now, Melody Oh, get a load of what I learned how to do with glitter graphics. Tell me you just don't love this image. http://dl8.glitter-graphics.net/pub/...rcvys2w760.gif |
Since we are talking about healthy food..... I am not diabetic, but I feel better if I eat as if I was -- no sweets, watching carbs, keeping blood sugar level. I eat meat, but don't enjoy it every day. Does anyone know of a website where I could get info on how a diabetic should eat vegetarian? I am looking for something that will tell how many exchanges of what per day, etc.

Be mindful of the sugar.....
when juicing. There's a lot of sugar in fruit and it hits you faster when you juice it. So you need to limit fruits when juicing. You will still get live enzymes by eating the fruit whole. When it comes to vegetables, the root vegetables like carrots and beet are higher in sugar than celery, lettuce, greens, etc.
I would suggest you enter into juicing slowly so you can monitor your sugar and let your body adapt to the change. We usually take our juice with some protein and fat. In other words....we have it with dinner or breakfast in a wine glass. Marlene |
Shiney Sue many hugs in rhe hospital. I am sure it passes the time having a computer.I am so sorry you are there. Your are in my thoughts always.
The juicer is like that 80 plus Jack guy on tv. What ever he does sure works. He looks great. I have no idea what to put in there. I like smoothies. You can make your own v8 juice. That seems healthy. The holistic doc was saying how fruit juices even if 100 juice are still not the greatest choice better a v8. I think it is better to eat fruit in the whole yet I think the juice would be better then the candy I eat. |
Dakota:
Here you go: https://www.vrg.org/journal/diabetes.htm And I am aware of the sugar content in fruits. I rarely eat fruit. Never after breakfast anyway. This morning I had a small glass of the Juiceman Juice that I did in the machine. That's it for me for the day. I then went to dunkin with my husband and we had breakfast. I took a walk, I am now lifting 5 lb weights, doing lots of reps with little weights, because I don't want to gain any muscle weight. So it's a work in process. I'm not the type to juice all day or at every meal. That would drive me nuts, (It's a pain in the neck to clean the machine). But once in the morning is fine with me. But if Alan wants to make himself a carrot apple pear drink in the afternoon, he can cut up the stuff himself and then clean the machine. I'm not worried because this man won't go into the kitchen. lol Melody |
