Default foot neuropathy

hello. im a new one to this whole forum thing. i was diagnosed in 2005 with type 2 diabeties. then about 3 or 4 months ago my legs and feet started to hurt alot. i went to doc and found out is neuropathy. never heard of this before. then about a month ago i found out im not type 2 but type 1 diabetic, im on insulin which i try to take twice a day. i do good for a month then slack off because i hate needles... but i will do the needles as much as needed to ease the pain in my feet. i was on neurotin and last week went on lyrica. i take percosets every 4 hours and 100 mg of lyrica 3 times a day. i want to cry right now cause my feet are burning so bad. i was working a fulltime job and part time job, but just last month gave up the part time job because i couldnt take the pain in the feet anymore. i hate socks and shoes on because my feet hurt and burn so bad. any suggestions to calm my feet would be welcomed. thanks for listening to me. i feel for anyone that has to go thru this but i know im thankful i have my legs and that im not in a wheelchair but sometimes its just overwelming.

First, you must get your glucose under control! Use your meter and test frequently, adjust your insulin to your carb intake. If you don't know how, ask doc. Think about using an insulin pump. I love mine. Then, try ALA. 600 mg daily, I think, somebody will confirm that, and there may be other supplements that could reduce the pain.

Did you have tests to confirm the T1? Just because you use insulin now does not make you T1. I am, and always will be, an insulin dependent T2.

thank you for answering me back. in 2005 i was told i was t2 but last month my endocronogist or however you spell it did blood work and just let me know that i was misdiagonsed and am actually a t1. i have asked to be put on a pump but so far they will not do this. my sugars have been over 300 since i was diagnosed and sometimes it will be 500 for a week at a time which is why now i guess i have the neuropathy. i was told i was able to use pump with my type 2 diabetes. i will get the ALA supplements tomorrow. again thanks.

I think you are looking for right this moment relief, I am intolerant to heat while some are sensitive to cold. When I'm really bad I sit on the edge of the tub and run cold water over my feet, brings instant relief. I hate shoes and socks, yet my toes tingle without socks, so I can be found in chenille socks everyday of the year, I must have 50 pair now. I also have crocs in black with suede top and no holes in them, order from their web site. I own mary jane earth shoes, anything loose and boxy. I have booties that can be micro-waved or frozen, of course I wear mine frozen.
The nutrition experts will weigh in, weekends are slow around here. Mrs. D. is a living PN encyclopedia, follow her advise along with several others. It's all a learning curve here for what will work for you and what won't. Hang in there, I'm feeling for you!!!

That seems a bit often due to the acetaminophen content of percocet, unless you only take one at a time. Did you mean every 6 hours? Recommended maximums of acetaminophen are no more than 4000 mg/day and no more than 1000 mg. in any 6 hr. period. (2600 mg/day for long term chronic use.)

People taking acetaminophen at or near those upper limits are also advised to have regular liver tests done, and take NAC (N-acetyl cysteine) to potentially avoid/reduce possible liver damage.

I have foot problems that range from pins and needles, numbness, burning, freezzing to excruciating pain depending on what I'm doing and what kind of day or night I am having. Walking on tile feels like walking barefoot on a skating rink.I used to be constantly barefoot unless I absolutely had to where shoes. Now I always have to have something comfortable on my feet, usually lined slippers or plastic clogs with socks. But everyone's pain is different at different times. I invested in a circulating foot bath with a heat control which I use with epsom salts. If I soak my feet in the foot spa for 20 minutes or so I find that it does help relieve the symptoms for a decent amount of time. If your feet are mostly 'burning' then forget about the heat option and put ice in the foot spa. I highly recommend it. Also, if there is someone around to help, a good foot massage with hot or cold creme, depending on your situation helps with circulation, but sometimes it hurts too much for that. I hope you find some relief. John
