Default They published my article in the NY DAILY NEWS!!

Last week, in the thread titled "Who has Driver's License?" I had posted that I wish there could be a bus or a van service (along the regular bus line), just for seniors and people with disabilities.

Cyclops told me to write to politicians and my local newspaper. My local newspaper is the NEW YORK DAILY NEWS. Do you know how much circulation they get??

Well, I emailed a Letter to the Editor (never thinking they would actually publish it). They also reserve the right to edit and make any changes they wish.

Well, imagine my surprise at Dunkin Donuts this morning as I turn to the middle of the newspaper and THERE WAS MY ARTICLE.

They did edit it to make it a bit shorter, but most of what I wrote is there.

Get a load of this. I am busting. And the people at Dunkin were smiling too!!!

They titled it

VANTASTIC IDEA

Brooklyn: The number of seniors in the city is growing. So is the number of people with disabilities. But on regular buses, we have to deal with mean kids, overstuffed backpacks, getting jostled and knocked around and, for people in wheelchairs, getting passed by at the bus stop. We need our own service, a bus or large van that would go along the same routes as other buses but take only people over 60 and the handicapped. ... Melody (They actually printed my last name)

They did leave out other stuff I wrote, but hey, THEY DID PUBLISH MOST OF WHAT I SENT IN!!!

Now people (hundreds of thousands), are going to read the Sunday News and many will respond.

Will let all of you know who says what!!!! oh, is this exciting or what??

lol

Rock and Rollin Melody!!!

That's me.

We'll see by tomorrow or the next day, if people actually write a response to what I wrote. This happens all the time. People will read something in Letters to the Editor, they will either disagree (and write a nasty retort), or they will jump on the bandwagon and say "Let's do a petition... or they will have some idea".

Let's hope it's the latter.

Will update.

Well done Mel, what a good idea .... over here people with disabilities who can't use public transport are given a taxi card which entitles them to half price fares, there are taxis especially built with a hydraulic lift for wheel chair people, but i would think a wheel chair bus on a busy routes would be a more reliable & cheaper option for them.
