jarrett,
I don't know. I am a bit baffled. I just knew my numbers were going to come out really well since I was taking it everyday. I'm please with the huge drop in the triglycerides. I think 48 points is huge. I just don't understand the increase cholesterol. I really didn't want to start another prescription but I can't mess around with this anymore. I kinda talked my doctor into letting me keep on the Niacin 4 months ago and this time she said it's got to be under control with Zocor. |
you may not be taking enough to lower your cholesterol, you can take up to 2000mg a day of niacin. 1000 mg is not that large a dose. Having PN i would try everything i could, such as zetia, fish oil with niacin, etc. before i would take zocor.

your liver...
has a built in set point for cholesterol synthesis. I think that people's bodies
overcome the attempts to control cholesterol. The statins are sooooo strong that they overcome or poison the feedback IMO. But milder attempts and dietary attempts, seem to just work briefly until the internal setpoint revvs up the synthesis in the liver. Cholesterol is vital for life. So it makes sense that body would have ways to overcome lowering attempts. This is why focusing on cholesterol is rather futile for trying to improve cardiovascular health. The FDA just rejected some new drug applications that lower cholesterol, because they now want MORE than that effect. The drugs we have now, mostly on generic lower cholesterol well enough. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...BUMM10DPKD.DTL Remember statins damage mitochondria. Once those are dead, they don't come back. As we age, we need them more than ever! |
