So the old formula didn't work eh? This is the second go round?

silas you know more about neuragen in its current and former forms, its history and its studies as well as guarantees than i know about anything i have ever taken. you are very passionate on this subject. ok to stop beating around the bush and to get right to the point i have the sneaking suspicion that you work for them.

Neuragen stinks
I tried this and wasted my money. Wish I had read Mrs. D's and other's posts
before I purchased it 6 or 9 months ago. The ingredients are so watered down I don't see how it could help anyone. All I got was a smelly foot. Look up homeopathic on wikipedia before you try it. |
The two posters supporting the product joined this forun in May 2009.Coincidence?

Neuragen stinks
They might as well have called it Neutragena:

Although I am predominently motor, I have excruciating foot pain with even light touch. I use plain old mint foot cream to massage my toes. It hurts like heck to do this, screaming pain in fact, but after they feel better and cooler. My take on this: 1. it's like hitting myself with a hammer and feels so good to stop. 2. The pain from the message releases my endorphines and I get some relief. 3. I believe it helps and I am doing something positive, there for I feel better. 4. Like your mom using Vick's Vapo Rub on you as a child, it is somewhat comforting to treat yourself well and again touch releases lots of feel good hormones.
BTW I also rub Vicks into my feet and that helps to, for the above reasons. |
I know this is very old but I am hoping you are still around. My Mom uses Neuragen PN and it works VERY well for her. However, at $30 a bottle, its not feasible. Do you think if we mixed it with unscented baby oil that it would work in a spray bottle? You cannot touch her feet at all.

He said "wow, this helps with the burning" And I agree, at $30 a pop, it's way over priced. Have you ever thought of writing to the company and asking for free samples? You never know. Melody |

Yes, the manufacturer staes that you can dilute the product with mineral oil or olive oil. The larger format is a spray bottle, so spraying it should work. Hope it works for you. Silas. |
I wrote to the company today about their prices and asked if I could mix it with something. I hope to hear from them soon. I wish she could take the prescription medications but they all seem to interact with her glaucoma. This stuff is the only thing we have found that works so far. And no, I don't work for Origin Biomed. :)
I will definitely try the spray though. Did it help with the stabbing pains too? She has no sensation in her feet for walking but if you brush them, even gently, she is in agony. I want to help so bad. I hope you have found something that works for your husband. Quote:

I've read all (4) of your posts thus far. I know of nothing that will help all types of PN related pain (burning, jabs/zaps, cramps, aching) but I think stabilized R-Lipoic Acid (RLA) is worth a look/try; it helps many PNers with sugar issues, and AFAIK, shouldn't interact with the other conditions you've named. If it doesn't help within 1-2 months, it probably won't, but it may work sooner than that. Studies have found it works even better with Acetyl L Carnitine (ALC) and/or pantothenic acid (B5). When I tried it, it stopped the burning pain almost entirely, and I need/take no prescriptions for it. RLA can also lower blood sugar some, and is an antioxidant. You'll find it and other supplements discussed in the Sub-Forum and Sticky threads. N.B. There's an old internet acronym - NAYY (No Affiliation, Yadda, Yadda...) - some folks use when it may sound like they're shilling for some product, but they're not. ;) Doc |
My Mother has had neuropathy in her hands and feet forever. They have put her on every kind of med imaginable. Nothing seemed to help and she had all kinds of side effects. Recently she ordered a cream for her condition called MagniLife diabetic foot cream - she is not diabetic - and it has worked better than anything she has ever tried. She rubs it on her feet and hands and said that it is the only thing that has given her any kind of relief and she has actually slept through the night. Amazing! My Dad doesn't understand why they can't make this in some kind of prescription because it's over $20 for 4 oz of the cream. I say, hey, if it works, just buy it in bulk as nothing else has ever worked. I'm just so glad that she has finally found something that has given her some relief. I have chronic neck pain and if I found something that worked for me, I wouldn't be without it!

I looked this cream up... its active ingredient is methyl salicylate which is like many topical arthritis rubs in US.
There is two essential oils in it for counter-irritant effects. Quote:
http://magnilife.com/products_diabetes_neuropathy.php The rest of the cream contains things to moisturize dry skin. Methyl salicylate is also in Salonpas patches and is a form of aspirin and therefore may help inflammation. Camphor and Menthol are in Biofreeze. But this product does not give details as to how much of either are in it. Tiger balm has pretty high levels of both Camphor and Menthol: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiger_Balm BenGay: Several types with different ingredients for comparison: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bengay There is nothing "new" in MagniLife. When people find something that works for them, they typically continue with it. But that does not mean it will work for everyone. |

I wonder what would happen? Melody |
Biofreeze has a special gel base, and it would not work the same mixed with something else.
To get the methyl salicylate, using Salonpas would be better IMO. Those Original Salonpas patches work very well for me and have done so for a decade. People react to rubs differently. Some things just work better for people on an individual basis. Sometimes it is the base (also called the vehicle) that is the determining factor in response. There is really no reason to mix ointments, IMO. I don't recommend it. |

Neuragen
I feel really sorry for all of you who didn't even give Neuragen a try because of the price of $29.99. I wish I had heard of Neuragen years ago! I have tried many different products (prescription and over-the-counter), and Neuragen has to be one of the greatest products for pain that I have ever used.
I find it rather ridiculous that people who have probably paid hundreds of dollars on doctors and prescription drugs would not be willing to pay $30 for pain relief. Pharmaceutical companies send drug reps to doctor's offices to recommend their patients to use the drugs that will profit the PHARMACEUTICAL companies. In our culture, homeopathic medicines are viewed as ineffective and "fictional". Of course our society won't take advertisements for a homeopathic remedy seriously. We all want lab created and tested drugs that have quantitative results, which are enthusiastically advertised by their creators (and their adverse effects mentioned only in fine print, or by a quick and soft speaking spokesperson). If you want pain relief, try Neuragen! If you want to read what people think about how well it works, read a review by someone who has actually used it, and not by someone who refuses to try it. Once you use it, you would be willing to spend much, much more than $30. And for those of you who really just cannot afford the Neuragen, there is another product with arnica gel, called Arnicare, that also works pretty well. It is only about $8 and can be found at Walmart. |
Because something works well for you doesnt mean it does or will work well for everyone with PN.
|
I spent more than $30 for Neuragen earlier on with my PN. I tried it but it did not work for me.
The CVS staff who directed me to Neuragen swore that her grandmother is relieved from pain when using the product. So, not everybody who actually tried, find it effective. |
Hi Melody
I use a compound that is a lotion. It has Katemine in it with 5 other ingrediants. It does help with the burning and pins and needles. Will post it to you if you want. This works better for me than opiates! ginnie:hug:

So funny, I googled Neuragen because yesterday my aunt gave me a tube of it. She said it works for her husbands foot pain neuropathy and wanted me to try it. So I googled it to check it out before applying it and this post came up!!
I have to say it has rave reviews from many people. The next burning spell I have I will try this, but the smell is strong. |
Quote:
I truly hope it works for you. Please update us. It did not work for my husband but then different remedies work for different people. All the best Melody |
I hope it does too! I will try it the next time I have a bad burning spell, but honestly, the smell is so strong I will only do it when I am staying home...
But my Aunt says her husband loves it and she uses it for sore neck muscles. Is it weird to say I can't wait to see if it works? lol NOOOOOOO!!! I CAN WAIT!!! haha! |
Report:
So at 3 am I woke up with the stabbing arm pain I get, where my arm connects to my shoulder. There is a spot that is always sensitive to touch cuz that muscle hurts alot and sometimes if I sleep on it or whatever it throbs. So at 3am I woke and decided to try this new stuff on it, since Biofreeze does not ever help it. Result: AMAZING. It stopped the pain and even to touch it no longer hurt, which usually when I rub biofreeze on it I try to massage that spot and it always hurts, well it stopped hurting. By 330 I decided to go back to bed, pain gone. Amazing thing is, it is still pain free this morning. Especially to touch it is usually tender after an episode. I don't no how it will work for my feet but for my arm??? AMAZING thumbs up and worth the money just for my arm pain. I guess just never know what will work and wont work. :) |

maybe it was a coincidence that the pain got worse...in actuality it may have just gotten worse just cuz, and not from the cream. Maybe you were in the middle of a pain "cycle".
I can guess this cream wont work for everyone but I can not imagine it would make pain worse. |
@Stacy:
The pain in your arm is it at the joint (under the deltoid muscle)? on the front? I get a pain there in my right arm and it is definitely referred from my wrist/carpal tunnel. When that nerve get pinched it can go all the way up the arm. I put a Salonpas on my inner wrist, (where the veins show) at night and the pain in my upper arm vanishes. Do you have signs of carpal tunnel...numbness in thumb and first two fingers, or tingling in them doing certain things? When you tap your inner wrist with your finger strongly do you get zings sometimes going into the hand? |
MrsD, no it is on the outside of my right arm, about 2 inches directly down from top of shoulder, and you can feel it is the muscle I use to raise my arm out to my side or up. It feels like a long muscle that runs the length of outside of the arm. When it is at it's worse I can not raise or move my arm AT ALL. If I keep it still it is ok but move it and YIKES.
I do not have any problems in my wrist or thumbs. This arm thing is crazy weird, and while it is worse in my right arm, it can also show up in the left arm too. Use to only show up 1 or 2 times a year but now more frequently. edit to add: I do not no if it is coincidence but my arm still feels good and is still not tender to the touch after using the cream this morning. |
Seems many are concerned aboiut the cost and the ingredients. Let me say, for me, it is a godsend. It is dispensed from the bottle in drops, and smeared on the skin. for me, the relief is in about 30 seconds. Last weekend, I was in the emergency room at the hospital on a gurney for an unrelated problem, and the pain began and of course I didn't have the little bottle with me.. despite my yelling and screaming, all I got was a nurse telling me to control myself. I don't know which of the herbs is the most powerful one, but combined, I wouldn't be without them.
