Hi Billye - totally understand your concerns about heating etc.... and I know you will make the right decision... it is just so hard to move when one is healthy - that its a worry when you are already in so much pain with the additional stressors it will add.....

One thing I've found during my search for a new place over the years that has all the handicapped access - that just being disabled qualified me for help from disabled groups in the city - most of it for free or minimal fee as far as modifications to my apartment (or home if applies) - just needed doctor notes.... maybe some interim modifications are available to you until you can get a bit stronger to move - they had ramps, shower rails, etc... You might ask for Adult Protective Services also who may be able to send someone out and offer suggestions for the short term.. (I know your not a senior yet - nor am I, and again, I qualified because of being disabled)......

I hadn't thought about the city access to hanidcapped groups. Thanks so much! They have Meals on Wheels (husband is a volunteer for them), handicapped vans, etc. much more. Living in the country has not qualified me for a lot of this. Thanks so much for the information. We have modified the house here slightly for me right after the sacral fractures. So it makes a move even more worrisome for me. Next week is bringing a colonoscopy, a trip to the rheumatologist and then a trip to the country to get milk, eggs, meat etc. from my "green" rancher. I have just spent 4 days going thru family photo's, documents, etc. and getting them ready to mail. The car is full of boxes going to various family members. I've only made a small dent in the house. And I am absolutely exhausted. Stress is keeping me from sleeping.

A few thoughts and I don't want to sway you in what you choose. For ex if you were not so in the country maybe the assistance could really help you and make the move better. Of course it will take adjustment cause it won't feel like home but after awhile it may be nice. Also maybe to help you with some packing or getting rid of stuff you can look on craigslist or make a post. You can find people for cheap. I hope you can get some rest. Hugs

I was just catching up on your thread. (I have been away briefly.)

I am sorry there are so many decisions to make and so many considerations to take into account!

My dh and I are living in an "in between" home right now. The idea was to sell our former home... which was further out and buy something small closer to the city... just to see if we like it, first. We have stayed here, liking the convenience for 3 years now! Since this is the case, we will look at larger housing (yet, not a lot largeer) within the next year!

We have also been learning more about what my needs may be in a home, while doing more testing, etc.

It is a major inconvenience, however, to simply "try" a location, as we have done. This is especially so if you'd like to try to keep room for a studio, etc. Our "former life" is in storage! LOL! (In fact, we have realized just how much we can truly do without! We can sell it all, basically!)

Please do alert us if/when your procedure is approved and scheduled?

Had my colonoscopy today, everything looks o.k. Next one scheduled for 5 years from now if everything goes o.k. Remind me I need to kill the next doctor who tells me I need one. 3 day liquid diet because of slow transit and then the ever dreaded purge. What machocist designed this test.

We put a bid down on a house. It is in an area that is in the city limits but not congested and in a good neighborhood. We even know one of the neighbors next door and one behind the house. I just have to quit gritting my teeth now. It is just such a big job. Scary to think about but I'll face one boxful at a time. Just can't lift them. Then we'll face the task of fixing this one enough to sell. I have a very impatient husband. Sure hope I'm equal to the task. So many decisions.

Glad to hear the good news about the colonoscopy... Shocked to hear you already have found a house... I have been trying to motivate hubby in that direction for longer than I can remember, and still nada, zero, zip interest...

If I were to dangle season tickets to the Dallas Cowboys in his direction as a motivator, we would be moved in and unpacked...

--regarding the colonoscopy, and glad it turned out OK. (Yes, it is one of those medical tests that seems to have been designed by the Marquis de Sade.)

No move is ever a picnic, but keep in mind the big picture--this will eventually get done, and you will be able to look back on it with a sense of accomplishment. (Hope the current real estate market doesn't put too much of a damper on your exchange.)

Well the move is a definite unless I back out at the last moment. And I got the ok on the resiotomy. First one scheduled next week and the next one two weeks later. Wish me luck. All of it within the moving process.
