Hi All!
I had an endoscopy today, a check up on the 2 Halo procedures I had last Oct. and again in Jan. The Endoscopy showed that I no longer have Barrett's Cells in my esophagus.......pre cancerous cells. The Halo procedure is an ablation laser procedure that burns the pre cancer cells. First you have the Halo 360 and then 3 months later you have the Halo 90. It's a brand new procedure and there's not many gastro dr.s who's doing it.......luckily my world renown Barrett's specialist is doing the procedure. Since my veins are SO bad from the IVIG's, nurses have a terrible time finding a vein for procedures. Today it took 4 sticks to find a vein, Gosh I hate that!  I have the Port but they can't use it.On another note......I'm taking Cymbalta, 120mg. now for my PN pain. It's actually helping some. I had to stop taking the Lyrica because of the weight gain it causes. Now I'm trying to find a sleep medication that keeps me asleep at night. I've always had a sleep issue......since I was little and have tried everything on the market thru the years. Now I'm trying Seraquil 25mg at night. Does anyone have opinions on meds to keep you asleep? I can get to sleep on my own, just can't stay asleep after a few hrs. I hope everyone is having a good day.........

I can only tell you that every night Alan takes his alprazolam and two melatonin and he's off for the night.
I am weaning myself off of alprazolam (very slowly). I also take the melatonin. It works (for us), like a charm. Glad you are doing better. Take care, Melody

--from the endoscopy. Take all the good news you can get.
I'm also glad the Cymbalta is helping the nerve pain. Overall, these anti-depressants (suchas Cymbalta and Elavil) have helped almost as many people with nerve pain as the anti-epileptics have (and generally without the common anti-seizure med weight gain, though they do have their own side effects, and also have to be carefully weaned down from when necessary). Now, as far as sleep meds, I'm inclined to go with Melody's melatonin first, just to minimize the med load, but I'm sure Mrs. D and others will give opinions. |

I am just so excited to hear that you are improved. You have just been thru so very much. Thanks for sharing this procedure info with us. You might also want to share that info about your doctor by PM if others are struggling with this. In fact my brother-in-law is going in tomorrow this week for info about his Barrett's. I would love to pass on whatever I can find. My husband does great with Melatonin. Me ...forget it. I've had sleep issues since I was in my 20's. I take Ambien. And sometimes I have to wein myself down in my dose and do without sleep for awhile, then I am able to increase again and get some sleep. If you continue to have sleep problems consider a sleep clinic. Great news, thanks for the post. Billye

I don't think Seroquel is a good choice for anyone with
insulin resistance. Right now there is a huge scandal involving it...the CEO of AstraZeneca was fired over it. Seroquel increases blood sugar and causes diabetes. http://www.bio-medicine.org/biology-...Zeneca-6113-1/ Lying about risks is always alarming when drugs are concerned. Using an atypical antipsychotic just for sleep? Bad choice all around. These drugs are implicated in causing death, in older patients. The UK has banned them for the elderly. Also Risperdal in the same class causes pituitary tumors. Your lack of sleep may be directly tied to the Cymbalta, IMO.

That there is some relief at the end of all you have been thru is truly good news!
That the Barrett's is going to be 'zapped' is well beyond super too! I read about a paper from some docs in your area and well....almost forwarded it to you? But then I figgered it was either YOUR docs or others [and I didn't want to get false hopes up] Obviously, you got THE DOCS! Hot Diggity! and other great words!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm kind of confused about your port tho? Why can't these nurses 'use' it? DUH? Has the port been flushed out properly monthly like it should be after all or inbetween all else that you've gone thru? That could be a problem and one you should bring up loudly to each and every doc you see! I mean, the whole purpose of the port was to make all this other stuff easier, wasn't it? Gee whiz, life can get soo much more complex than we ever planned for sure! But you are a true testament to Sticking it OUT! And winning to boot! Even tho you don't feel like it now? Great news! I was really tickled to read that. No more nasty Barrett's cells.... Hoorah!!!
Have you gone back to work? I have lost track of what is going on with everyone. The last I knew, you were having bladder surgery... I am probably not much help with the sleep issue. I take Klonopin and Flexeril before bedtime and have no trouble staying asleep. After adding the Flexeril to my medication routine, I had trouble waking up, but my system has adjusted to it now.... Before this pn I had sleep issues. Anyhow for a short time trazedone worked for me and my mom takes atavan and that helps her a lot. I used to also take remeron or zoloft can't remember which one helped with sleep. Glad things are looking up.

I'm also using Xanax for sleep. It also helps with the pain unfortunately I have to take one at bedtime then sometimes another in the middle of the night for pain. My Docs say it can't be helping but it does its the only thing that helps me sleep and shuts down the pain unless I'm having a really bad episode.
