Help Selenium Toxicity and PN

Does any one have any experience of PN(prob small fibre) and a n elevated serum selenium level? I have had a very painful PN for 13 yrs and just discovered that the level is over 5 times normal and I do not take supplements or use selenium shampoo.

Best wishes, Tony13

Default An interesting selenium puzzle!

How did you get your selenium tested? Did you ask for it or was it done as a result of you showing signs and symptoms of selenium toxicity or is your doctor a creative thinking doctor?

If you are not taking supplemental selenium how on earth are they going to bring your levels down? Is there an antidote? Have you had soil tests done around your house and do you grow your own veggies etc?

Sorry for all the qu's!

Lightbulb sources of toxicity...

This link lists ground water:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selenium

But I have heard of manufacturing errors, where excess selenium was included in a vitamin product. But that kind of
incident is not common.

According to this link--
There is no known chelator to remove selenium:

Any industrial exposure....paints, sulpher coal burning fumes, photo copy fumes, etc....

Also, is your diet mosty vegan. I've read where high protien diets are protective against selenium toxicity as well as cysteine and vitamin e.

The Neurologist requested it in addition to other trace elements but he now does not know much about it. I have just discovered that echinacea has quite a lot of selenium in it. I have been taking this for many years and therefore have now stopped. We shall see what happens.

There are doctors who specialize in environmental medicine.
You can consult one who may be able to help you.

I would have any herbal product you use alot of tested.
Also if it comes from China it may be adulterated with other drugs or substances! China is notorious for this.

If your product is contaminated, it needs to be reported.
There may be other substances in a contaminated product.
You may have only found the tip of an iceberg!
