Nutrasweet (aspartame)
is composed of two amino acids.
Phenylalanine + aspartic acid. Aspartate and glutamate both are neurostimulants. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NMDA_receptor Aspartate is less active than glutamate, but the receptor is involved with pain perception. And some consider phenylalanine a trigger for migraines: http://familydoctor.org/online/famdo...rders/127.html |
other reports on diet coke
I read an article over two years ago now about how a bunch of people who had been diagnosed with MS based on symptoms and had been avid diet soda drinkers found their symptoms completely resolved when they quit drinking diet soda. I'll look to see if I can find the article again and post it if I do. I remember it b/c my BF at the time was a chain diet coke drinker and was having MS-like symptoms so I took note and asked him to cut out the diet coke and see what happens. I don't think he ever tried it though.

Hi. just wanted to put my two cents in. I wouldn't use aspartame if they paid me big bucks. Read all about it. Didn't like what I read. I used Splenda with no adverse anything but then I found STEVIA. That was it for me and Alan. And you'll be happy to know that they are coming out with products with Stevia, only they are calling it Truvia. so be on the lookout (eventually ) for diet products made with Truvia. And wait until you hear what the yogurt people did. I used to buy the Light and Fit from Dannon. it had splenda and it had 60 calories and it was nice and light and had the probiotic thing going on so it was all good. WELL THEY CHANGED THE FORMULATION. At least in my neck of the woods. Now you can't find the 60 calorie product anymore. They changed it and now there is both ASPARTAME AND SPLENDA in the container and it now has 80 calories. I read absolutely every label before I buy ANYTHING. They hide aspartame in everything. (Kind of like when they used to put sorbitol in everything). The other day I was in NYC for my monthly Cornell examination. I went to the Food Emporium to buy some things. I passed by the employee who was putting some new Weight Watchers product (snack cakes) on the shelf. I said "do you know what it is this stuff?" She said "no, but it's only 100 calories". I turned the package over and said to her "count the ingredients". I think she stopped at 70 or so. She said "holy cow, what do they put in these diet things?" I said "I don't diet, and I don't buy ANYTHING without reading a label". My god, they are trying to poison us all, (that's what it seems like) Mel |

I don't bother to experiment. One or two bad experiences is enough. I just stay away from all of 'em. I've got enough problems, & don't need to add to them. |

I just don't want to do anything that might accidentally stir up my symptoms. |
