that made you gain?
I hear all of the weight gain horror stories, and believe me, that is secondary of my concerns. I want to lessen or rid myself of my burning pain, so if Elavil can help, so be it. I will begin on a low dose of 10mg. So is it weight gain because you eat more, because you don't exercise or exercise less? Or does it slow your metabolism? I hear alot of people say that they eat alot more or they are hungry for carbs, and in that case it wasn't the Elavil that made them gain weight, it was the increase in calories. I was just wondering as it must depend on the person, as I haven't gained weight on Neurontin and I am at 1800mg. Anyone not gain on Elavil and had a reduction in their nerve pain? thank you ![]() |

I did gain on Elavil but I was on 50mg a day. I probably gained a total of 30 lbs but it helped the pain.
After about a year it stopped helping and I was weaned off. In the last 2 months without dieting I have lost the 20 of 30 lbs that I gained. I believe the Elavil caused me hunger so I did notice the calorie intake was higher. You are on such a low dose that IMO I wouldn't worry about it right now. If it is helping, to me it is worth it. ![]()

At one time i was taking 150 mg of amitriptyline at night and 25 mg in the morning, it definatley helped with the burning & sleeping, i did notice it give me a craving for sugary foods but i still managed to loose a lot of weight still, i suppose it depends on how serious one managers their diet.

Hi Jess,
I took Elavil for 3 months last summer. I did not gain any weight at all (I was hoping I would!) but it did not help me with any of my sx either. Hope it works for your pain! Kelly

none of the RX drugs used for burning/pain HEAL you.
They mask symptoms only. There are other things you can do to heal yourself. Brian for example, no longer needs Elavil, because he made choices to heal himself.

Thank you Mrsd, I understand that. What do you do to heal yourself? I exercise, have always watched what I eat, meditate, and still have a chronic nerve problem that interfers with my life. I am unable to sit and the pain is only manageable through meds right now.
I know they dont cure the source, but I am working on finding out what that source is. |

In some cases the source can be avoided, treated, kept under strict controlled or even cured depending on what it is. For example, b12 deficiency, diabetes, exposure to toxins, chemotherapy, compression, etc.
