It is worth trying if you think your PN is due to mitochondrial damage. Drugs(statins & antibiotics)/toxins are the biggest offender. It is not harmful or cause side effects, but is a bit costly.

Also if you are "older"...as the current thought is older patients have normal decline in mito activity.

You would need at least 1 to 2 grams a day.
The mito cocktails also include CoQ-10, biotin and lipoic acid.

I have taken it 2x500 capsules for about three months. I can not say that it is responible as I take other supplements - see the stickies pages, however I have seen a small improvement in my condition, which was diagnosed as SFN.

Default Acetyl - L- Carnitine, high on my list!

I started taking Acetyl - L- Carnitine about five or six weeks ago and I can't believe how much more energy I have most days. It is quite phenomenol! I was quite sluggish today and then I realised that for the past couple of days I've cut back to 1,000mgs per day (instead of 2,000mgs) as I was getting low on the powder. Need to get some more!

I have been taking Co-enzyme Q10 for about one year and a few other things and can't say that I have noticed as much of a difference, as with the Carnitine!

The two other things which have helped me noticeable and drammatically out of all the things I have tried were Folinic Acid and NZ deep sea Shark Liver Oil. However each persons deficiencies and requirements are different. It is not a one size fits all!

You know, Megan.... you were on alot of antibiotics!

And recently there are studies showing antibiotics can damage mitochondria! There could be a link there.

I am glad you are feeling better. When people start a serious exercise regimen, often acetyl carnitine helps with muscle pain and adjustment.
