Default Neurologist or Internist?

My insurance would cover either one without a referral, Would a Internist be able to handle PN or is a Neurologist a better choice for this.
When is a pain mangment Doctor useful?

I kind of wonder what the posters feel is a better choice

thank you

My internist completely yields to my neurologist. When I told her I wasn't going back to the one I'd seen, she offered me names of other ones. She won't touch the neuropathy, and says the only advice she has for me is to keep on a healthy, low-carb diet and get exercise to make sure I keep diabetes at bay. She absolutely wants me to keep seeing a neuro.

Yes, a neurologist is the right person to see regarding neuropathy. And, if the general neurologist has difficulty pinpointing your condition, they may also refer you to a neuromuscular specialist if there is one in your area.

Then, if they can find a cause for the neuropathy, they may also refer you to a specialist in treating that underlying cause. (rheumatologist, endocrinologist, etc.)
