There are times to listen to doctors, and other times to not, jenng.

This is a NOT time.

Methylcobalamin is pennies a day. I'd do it and get your levels up to 1000. 600 is not sterling. But not low either. If you had the test within 72 hrs or less of the shot, it will show a false elevation.
The testing does not distinguish between types of cobalamin either as far as I know.

Cyano is not utilized by the body, but methyl is. All you are doing is providing the natural active form instead of the synthetic. Using oral is non-invasive, as it does not require an injection, which is.

Could I just start taking Vitamine B12 orally, in high dosis, without having my levels checked? My spine fluid was checked back in 2007, but I don't know if they checked for that. Can it be checked with a blood test?

Sure it can. Just ask your primary care physician that when he runs your next blood test, to run a B-12 level check. When you get your test results back, it will be right there.

Unless you live in another country, then I have no idea. lol. I just saw your post and figured you live in the USA.

Thanks a lot! I live in Europe and probably it can be done also here I will demand (not ask) blood tests incl. B12 test from the neurologist I'll see next Monday.

Could someone please tell me, what kind of vitamin B12 and how much
of it should I take? This thread is a long one, and I (literally) don't have the nerves to go through it all now, though my question might have been answered there.

Right now, I have 2 kinds of pills on my desk:

1. neurobion , which is 100 mg B1 + 200 mg B6 + 200 mg B12

2. megasorb vitamin B complex, which is a lot of things, including 50 mg vitamin B 12 (as cyanocobalamin, whatever that means), and 400 mg folic acid.

Hard choice, I have no idea which one is better, and how much of it I can safely take.

I could also maybe buy just B12 in a standalone form, they probably do sell it? Would that be better?

I don't know what is available where you are.

But if you can find methylcobalamin ...at least 1000mcg size...that would be a good start.
Stop taking it at least 3 days to a week before any testing.
Stand alone products are the only ones with high dose as a rule.
There are rare products now (but don't know if you have it where you are) called Metanx, which are high dose.

Take your B12 on an empty stomach with no food for at least an hour. Otherwise it won't be absorbed well. 50mcg in a mixture is not going to get you very far (if you have problems absorbing for any reason).

Hi again. Forget about anything that says Cyanocobalimin. You want to get Methylcobalimin. I myself have taken 5000 every single morning for about 7 to 8 years now. I buy it off the internet at Puritan's Pride. They give really good deals. Like buying 2 bottles and getting 3 for free. I do not know if they ship to another country. But I do know that Methylcobalimin Or Methyl B12 (as we call it) is the kind of B-12 that you should be putting in your body. It nipped my neuropathy symtoms for good.

If you take cyanocobalimin, your body converts it into Methyl and you won't be getting a great deal. It's a large molecule. That's why I take 5000 every morning, on an empty stomach. It dissolves under my tongue.

I have had no side effects and I sleep quite well. And if you run this by your doctor be prepared to hear "Oh, I don't believe in B-12 therapy, it's a lot of nonsense, etc. etc". Remember, doctors practice medicine, they do not practice nutrition. We get B-12 from meat. We'd have to eat A LOT OF MEAT to get a good amount. I don't eat meat. Even if I did, I would continue to take my Methyl B-12 each and every day. Others will come along and advise you also. All the best

Melody, when you say "It nipped my neuropathy symtoms for good", what do you mean? I have extended muscle atrophy, the nerves are most probably damaged (just how much, EMG will probably show), any good B-12 could do to regenerate the nerves? Or at least stop that damage from progressing .. I wanna weep when I look at my hands actually

Hi there.

I can only indicate what it did for me (and many others). I found out I had diabetic neuropathy many years ago while I was in the podiatrist's office and he was using some kind of vibrating tool on my toe nails. Well!!! I nearly jumped off of the chair. He kept going "Good good, you have feeling". I wanted to choke him. My feet buzzed all day long.

I immediately knew I had to by Methyl B-12 (from reading all the posts on this board). I know it does not work for everyone but it saved my life and sanity as far as my neuropathy goes. It also has other benefits. Why not try it for a while. You have nothing to lose.

Let's see what others say when they glance at these postings.
